Dunbar (Grumpy Tommo's club) halving their joining fee.

Interesting move and I am sure it will work although if there was no joining fee I would probably consider......and if there was no joining fee the club would be stowed out!

Trying times for many, many clubs in Scotland and it would not surprise me to see some going under as I believe things are getting tougher for us.

Still waiting for that invite mind......

I think you'll see a domino effect dodger. If one club goes I think you'll see the banks start to panic and pull the plug on a few more.

It may not be a bad thing for a few to go.

I think its the same all over. You look at some of the decent clubs that are up for sale (Gatton Manor) etc which on the surface have great traffic etc and it makes you wonder how a lot of clubs are making any money at all. I think 2012 will see a few up and down the UK go, especially and sadly if it's sold for housing. We have gotten rid of our joining fees permanently. I've no idea if it has had an impact yet as Winter isn't a good time for memberships but as the new season dawns hopefully we'll attract some new faces

Gatton Manor is up for sale? Thank God! That place was run like a hookers tights!

I think the last time I was up there, I think a fair few were in the bar!! Not nearly as many as in the Bel Air nightclub at the Belfry though  ;) :whoo:

Interesting move by Dunbar. I know a few folks who play there so will be interested on their take on it.

Certainly going to be an interesting year to see which club folds first. Probably a couple of likely candidates in E'mbra itself. The muni courses in Embra have certainly seen an increase in footfall in the last year so people are still playing, just not staying in their clubs.

Heard Downfield up beside me put there joining fee down to £500 from £1200 ,they tried to keep elite but its back fired big time, course is just a bog apart from 3-4 months.

I really enjoyed Downfield, played it just the once a couple of years ago and it was in good nick, pity about that daft dogleg (16th I think) hole, it's never a golf hole.

Its a great course for the 3-4 months, yeah the 16th hole chap down to the bottom and a flick on, some people try and get greedy tho trying to cut round the corner always end up in the trees.
