Morning all

So I cracked open the winter ball last weekend which is yellow......in the winter sunlight I couldn't see them on the fairway and then with the colour of the leaves on the ground couldn't see them in the rough either.

I switched to white balls mid round with better success on the fairway but still in the rough was useless amongst the leaves.

Has anyone noticed any real difference in using Orange balls or any other bright ideas? (apart from keeping it on the short stuff)

The short answer is - no.

Yellow and orange balls just blend in with fallen leaves I've found.

I've even tried pink balls, but they seem to be even worse!

a yellow ball is better to see in the air in some conditions like overcast and darker sky, Orange is good in frost as is pink. But ive found a white ball just as easy to see on the ground as any other, if not better than coloured balls

I have the same problem at my course. I lost 2 balls on Sunday that were only just off the edge of the fairway, two semi decent shots, but completely hidden in leaves and semi that is currently taller than the balls. A consequence of Autumn unfortunately. I think we just have to suck it up and wait for the leaves to clear. Low sun is also an issue on my course as we hit directly into it for the first three holes making tracking your shots very difficult.

cheers all, as I suspected really.

I tried pink last year and I couldn't even see them in the middle of the green on a clear day....absolutely useless. I've just ordered 12 Bridgestone E6s in Orange just to give them a crack as I know I like the ball.....as you say, suck it up and deal with it I guess.

That's what I found with pink, lost it 50 foot in front of me in the air and couldn't see it on the green / fairway at all unless almost on top of it. I don't know if they are better suited to dryer linksy courses where the grass is more yellow than lush green?

Links golf is probably best for Winter(sticking with prov1x)- cant abide another year of mud, pudding top greens or no greens at all, and career best drives plugging in the fairway.

White .... lose it in the dull winter sky, can lose them under leaves
Yellow ... Much better in the Sky, and on the greens/fairways, can lose them under leaves
Orange ... Lose them in the sky, hard to see from distance, can lose them under the leaves
Pink ... No idea

Basically if your ball runs under leaves then you have a good chance of losing them. Sitting on top of leaves, I guess it depends on the trees on your course but, I tend to find the srixon ZStar tour yellow easiest to find.

the 3rd in our group on sunday used an orange ball, it was very hard to spot. I found the white much easier.

I find a yellow ball easier to see on grey days, and on frosty fairways/rough. As with all balls, when under leaves they are equally difficult to find.

It must be something to do with the colour. My Dad struggles to find his pink castle tees after he hits his tee shots, even if it's literally next to his foot.

:smirk:i have a ball that glows in the rough,it floats when in the water and has a teflon like cover that repels mud and sand, dont know were you buy them as i found it.

i will get my coat.
