Another article for bombers to defy?

Woohooo bring on all the 15+ handicappers that claim to hit it more than 215 yards :D

Nice find Darren, this could be entertaining

Interesting article, makes a lot of sense. I'd love to think that my drives fly by the 200 yard mark mid-air, but in all honesty my 3 wood goes just as far (at this time of year) as it's easier to hit!

I Just hit the driver as far as I can, its the second shot one should have an ego about... Rather than "I hit my driver 280", "I hit my irons on the green from where my driver lands"... its not the way of the world though is it.

Looks sound to me- I fit in the 4-1 h/cap range which is about right, and the guys I know in the other ranges fit-

However, these are averages and there are many exceptions to the rule, I'm partnering a 14h/capper this year who play X-100 blades and a 110mphSS who can be Tiger one minute then his girlfriend the next:eek:

What a world class skier,talented:D

It really is not fact though. My brother in law hits his driver way way past mine on a good day, maybe 20 yards plus and he is a higher handicap and hits his irons the same distance. That said, my handicap and swing speed with the driver are pretty on par with the above data.

LOL. love some stats to cheer up my afternoon..

lets just say my playing handicap does not match on their chart... their chart does not factor in the voices in my head, my inconsistencies, putting, chipping, course management etc etc..

There are people waiting to pounce on your bud, could you be a little clearer and tell us how far you hit it and what your swing speed is please.... Im thinking 305 yards carry and 120mph..... Come on, give them the food they crave!! :)

LOL.. Not particularly interested in the "mass" debate, but it should be pointed out that just because an average exists, not everyone will fit in with that average.. I'm very VERY sure that there are 14-18 handicappers out there who can carry it well over 200 yards and on occasion well over 240 yards.. If anyone here can tell me that this isn't a possibility then I'll walk away from this discussion happily...:D

OK, so after my distance session the other week, i have actually been trying new drivers. The best one, club head speed was up to 105 and carry was around 245. makes me a 1 handicapper according to that chart! I'll take that!

Btw. Those are US Indexes. No accurate way to equate, but US Indexex are something like 20-25% lower than Congu.

Slightly scarily, it does show that there is a pretty direct relationship between Swing Speed and Handicap - as my SS is pretty low!

Most interesting thing in there is that the average handicap is 14.6? I always thought it was higher and several people on here over the last couple of years have had an earful about saying that 'average' is anything less than 18.

As CMAC says, looks relatively solid to me with a few obvious exceptions. Certainly those older boys at our club who play off 4 or 5 now but have been much lower don't have swing speeds anywhere near some of those on the way down but maybe aren't as tidy around the greens etc.

Good article though.

I have a feeling that as was hinted at above that the average handicap is higher in Europe.

I havent seen anything to support that but based purely on my own experiences that would make sense. I've played with 6-10 h/cappers here that breaking 80 was a good day, and 4-5 h/cappers in the States that played like club pro's.

Not scientific but just an observation

Would a sample of nearly a thousand clubs and a quarter of a million current Golfers be indicative enough?
