Does England golf now specify dates between which this has to be carried.

Previously we have done ours between January and March, new admin manager is saying it needs doing now.

It should take place between 1st October and 31st December according to EG.

When I run the report on Wales Golf Clubhouse, only 2 players come up for consideration, and none of them warrant a move I feel.

Looking through various clubs’ reports it seems as if about 6-10 members seems a typical number, a lot fewer than under UHS and seemingly fewer than last year (although this is a guess). Perhaps the system is working.

Some better reports to help this year - particularly like the one showing rounds played since they last played to their handicap.
If last year's guidance is still relevant, from what I remember we are only to consider people who are flagged on the whs annual review list.

From our Area Handicap Advisor

Just a reminder that your Annual Review needs to be carried out by December 31st.
You should use the report which is available on the platform, which will give you suggestions as to which players need alteration: but if you have knowledge or evidence to the contrary, you need not follow the advice - it is just for guidance. You should then also look at anyone who has requested an alteration to handicap for some reason, or where another player has asked that you consider altering the HI of another player. Then you should consider those who are struggling, perhaps due to an illness or similar.

You should not tinker with the HI of players; especially if they regularly return scores (and so have a true average). No need to make the Annual Review harder than it needs to be!

Wow, thats quite a change. Seems very restrictive to leave everything to the algorithm alone for the rest of the year. Maybe thats part of the problem some clubs are having with the wild scores, but unable to make interventions like we would have of old.

This is a 'Guidance' and 'Recommendations' document. It is not prescriptive.
Granted. But are we supposed to just ignore the document? There are some very clear guidelines printed here. If Committees ignore this document and go by their instincts, what is the point in publishing it?

We have 588 members with an Index. 2 are flagged on the report, and both of them have the minimum elements to warrant a flag. Outside of other Committee members, or the Seniors Section, making recommendations about injuries etc., we will be making no alterations. The system works.

Clubs still have the ability to intervene, but, as before, no knee-jerk reaction to one good round.

An annual review isnt a knee jerk reaction either. So if handicaps can be revised at any time, presumably that follows a review, then it follows that handicaps can be reviewed at any time, surely ?

Our Handicap Committee meets every 2 months. Since the introduction of WHS there is a great deal less action needed.

Yes, in the sane world, away from the conspiracy theorists and 52 points urban myths, it does seem a more robust system. What took us so long to dump the UHS ?
