Right, the e-mails have been sent out, the responses have come back , the sublime to the ridiculous have been scratched and the club list is down to a remaining seven potentials. We haven't ruled out the nomad route but this question is predominantly aimed at club members existing, former and potential although not exclusively so as it could be firmly argued that the hardened nomads out there have a wider range experience to draw from.

We cannot really do much more without getting round the various clubs to see what they're like and put some questions to the secretaries.

Taking the obvious things like green fees out of the equation as they're all roughly in the sameish bracket for 7 day membership...

What searching questions would you be asking? What are the must do's and must don'ts? what things get a big green tick and what gets a big red cross?
What's the things that bitter experience has taught you is an un-negotiable pre-requisite ?

Several ways of posing more or less the same question I know but there we go.

Ive got my own crib list but it may be different to yours and i'll post it further down the line if something needs further clarification.

thanks in advance for your input ,

bill

An important thing for me and ultimately why I stayed at my current club instead of moving is to see how they organise their competitions.

Do you put your name into a draw system or do you have to fix up your own competition matches? As friendly as some clubs are it could be hard for new members to get into a regular game, thats where the draw system comes into its own.

My new club draws you out in medals and stableford comps which is pukka becasue you can just turn up and you got a game. Literally everyone is good company at the club.

I assume this is to do with joining a new club?

Yep - sorry I didn't make that more clear. Ive become disgruntled with the club i'm currently at. It was(is) our first club and it's all good experience in the long run

Days such as today have convinced me it's time to move * on before the subs come around. Ive made a systematic and in-depth search of all the clubs in the broad locale and have got it down to a short-list of seven potentials.

I'll add a line into the orignal one to make it clear. Thanks again,

bill

* as five day members we can't play until 3.30 pm at weekends and 4pm in the summer. Fair do's you might say yet we can't step up to 7 day until we reach 24/36 H/C for me/ the missus respectively. We pay something like 4/5ths of the green fees for this arrangement and we can't evn pay extra to play earlier .Once again, fair do's you might say. The fly in the ointment is that this punative imbargo is only fair if you make sure the people on full membership actually CAN play their handicaps and are checked annually. Watching some of them I would say there was more chance i'm going to give birth to a rhino pup next week than them breaking 100:mad:

The other bit is that it's become more or less clear that women aren't welcome on the tee on Saturday mornings even when accompanied by men. No good for the missus and I- particularly even as a novice I would lay money she'd whip some of the old cumudgenly foosties blathering their way up the first fairway with blasted R2 -effin- D2 in tow.
