Bring back u-grooves, grow the rough up a bit for the pampered tour pros who don't like to look bad and all this nonsense will be forgotten.
It is a daft state of affairs at present. If Ping start manufacturing eye 2 wedges again and put them through an ageing process (for example give then to amateur hackers like us for a fortnight then take em back) who's gonna know if they're pre 1990 or not?
My 3 vokey wedges are 1 year old or so, it is probable I will be keeping then until the heads rot away unless they last as long as 2024 or whenever the groove rule affects us amateurs. An ancient u-groove wedge is going to offer more control than a brand new v-groove one. I hope the wedge makers are prepared for a collapse in new wedge sales until 2024.
It'll be interesting to see if Michelson and McCarron ever come up against each other in a matchplay tournament. It'd be funny watching them have to make every single putt, neither willing to give the other anything.
