Fantastic song, written by Eric Bogle, who emigrated to Australia in the 60s. Saw him live in our local folk club many years ago. He doesn't even think it's his best song - everyone else does!

Funny enough, t's a song that has never really done anything for me although on this day and the centenary of the Galipolli landings I can see how it has an affinity and affection in peoples hearts

I guess that when you look at the populations of OZ and NZ in those days you can see why.

It's relevant because the Anzacs were from OZ and NZ.

Oh yes, open borders and migration are a mess and I will take every opportunity I can to say so, but people from these countries are immigrants if they come here. I have to say I feel much more akin to them than Roma Gypsies!
