Less than 2 years to go before the anchoring ban comes into force. How many of you guys and gals out there currently use anchored putting styles with broom handle or belly putters, and what are you going to do once the ban applies? Go back to short putters, or find a non-anchored style for the long putters you already have, e.g. armlock?

Am I right in thinking you can still use any length of putter, it just can't touch any part of your body? Reason I ask is I'm really struggling with long putts at the moment, I keep leaving them well short. I know the answer is to hit it harder but it doesn't seem to work! I'm wondering if a broomhandle style might help.

Correct.
The putters themselves haven't been banned so if you can swing a broom handle holing it in 2 hands feel free.....

I have to say, I've never seen anyone using one except on TV or at the PGA....
We have a couple of belly putters in the shop - not sure how they're going to flog them.....

Still a few at my club using brooms and they have adapted their grip so its not anchored, seems to work well for a few of them.

there is a guy at my clubs says he's giving up once the ban comes in. the Broomhandle is the only thing keeping him playing he says.

He told me that he was so a bad with a standard putter he would miss from 6 inches

One of my mates who's off 2 used one and he hasn't a clue what to do, mind you he has plenty of time to get used to a normal putter he lives in spain for 6 months of the year and is a ret ex city trader,

Wrong!

Anchoring is banned.

But putter can touch your body if it's not anchored!

This ban is going to be an absolute nightmare to enforce. Where is the definition of anchoring and how much do you have to move the hands/arms away from the body before it is deemed you are not anchoring? One person's interpretation is different from the next.

Good luck to the ruling bodies on this one, they have made a rod for their own back

Here's the definition of anchoring
Note 1: The club is anchored “directly” when the player intentionally holds the club or a gripping hand in contact with any part of his body, except that the player may hold the club or a gripping hand against a hand or forearm.

Note 2: An “anchor point” exists when the player intentionally holds a forearm in contact with any part of his body to establish a gripping hand as a stable point around which the other hand may swing the club.

If the player's hand or arm is not in contact with the body then that is far enough, there's no minimum distance required. There's no interpretation required. Of course, if someone is attempting to conceal the fact that they are anchoring then that will be a problem, but a different problem.

I seem to remember something about the long putters being better for holing out but harder to judge pace with so it might not help you. I'm another counterbalanced putter user and won't be changing anytime soon.

I like to mix up my putting so I have a couple of belly putters, an arm lock and a broom handle among various others. If I still play after the ban then I will still use them for fun. Think it's a shame.
