Anyone else following this.

Bottom line is that the UK challenge fronted by Ben ainslie is not going to well. They have New Zealand in the semis and are 3-1 behind. Bearing in mind that New Zealand picked the UK boat as opposition coz they knew what the weather conditions would be. The Kiwis flipped there boat yesterday and have spent all night and day repairing the boat. Fair enough.

Now there's summat am seriously missing here and maybe someone with a bit more nous can help me.

The UKs boat when racing the Kiwis the other day broke summat. They lost that race and the next as they could not repair there boat on time. Fair enough.

But racing was cancelled today coz it is too windy, giving the Kiwis more time to repair ther boat. Eh. To flippin windy. Nelson would be turning in his grave. How the hell can it be to windy to sail. When I was a lad the storm Mizzen went up when it was windy

So what's happening in the fairy land of sailing now a days.

But back in the day the boats weren't doing 46knts! Just imagine having a crash in your car at that speed and no seat belt!
Amazing machines

Thats the bit I don't get, why have/ design a boat that only sails in specific winds.

I guess these boats are better for tv rather than the old plod plod displacement boats of yesteryear.
H&S got a full make over after the death of Andrew Simpson last time around :(

Long gone are the days when Tashyboy was blasting around the Bay of Biscay in the tri masted schooner the Malcolm Miller in a force niner🙁

A bit harsh referring like that to someone who is an 11 times world champion, has 3 Gold and 1 silver Olympic medal plus numerous other great results.

I'm not knocking what he's done in the past but I don't think he'll over turn this deficit. I was referring to the hundred and sixty plus years of hurt and the fact the UK has never won the America's Cup. As I said. He's not alone in that

Bear in mind Ainslie was in the American team last time around as one of their tacticians and helped America come from behind to win the Cup in the finals. So, he knows what he's doing, he's a professional sports sailor.

AC is just like F1... all about the money and the UK until this time around haven't had the backing (and it's still not as much as the big teams).
BA can make a difference at pre start like he did in the last race but once racing they don't have the boat speed.
"Boat speed makes you look like a tactical genius"

Odd thing is though Homer is that in the last Americas cup team America were getting proper mullered. The equivalent of being 7 down with 8 to play and they just smashed it to win by the equivalent of a 20ft birdie putt on the last.
so he does have excellent pedigree in the AC.

As someone who knows the majority of the sailors in team BAR, and having built parts of the boat too I am probably in a good position to comment here.

Looking back at the last Americas cup when team USA were 8-1 down and came back to win, Ben got a lot of credit as he first came onto the boat at 8-1 down and then they won every race from there to win the cup. Granted he played a big part, but he was part of a very big (and extremely well funded) team. The Kiwis were within minutes of winning the cup, but went over the time limit in race 10 so it could have been very different. Luckily for team USA they were able to catch up with their development in the nick of time!

BAR have done a very good job of building a team from scratch for this Americas Cup, but small differences get magnified in the races. These boats are very fragile, in the same way F1 cars are so they will suffer damage. The wind range is there partly due to the TV coverage so it is interesting to watch, partly due to safety...these boats are phenomenally fast and also because the winners of the previous cup write the rules for the next one.
