Just got back from trying the Titleist 913 D3 and had my swing speed measured at 110 - 116 mph, is this a reliable measurement or is this a 'beefed up' swing speed to make it seem as though I'm hitting it further? I only ask as I think I've heard this mentioned before on this this forum.

Also, the bloke in AG said my swing speed was bordering an extra stiff shaft but they didn't have any in stock. If I'm going to spend £280 on a new driver, I want to make sure everything is perfect. Does my swing speed need an extra stiff shaft?

I wouldn't say the swing speed will be inflated, the distance it says you hit the ball may be, they will set the conditions to be optimal of course...

I would say you are borderline and it will depend on the shafts I would say.. Don't buy anything without trying it if you are spending 300 large on a driver! If they want your business, they will get you one in to TRY! U don't have to buy it!

Do you really want to know???? Beefed up. Get out to a club pro or a decent range and hit some on a range so you can see the whole ball flight and get on something like a trackman. I wouldn't trust AG to fit me for a tee let alone an expensive driver

Get yourself to a pro who can also take you outdoors with it to get a better picture and proper fitting with different shaft options

But you will go in there to try out the latest kit.....

As i said to the op. Try it, if you are happy, buy it. AG in my opinion are very good, maybe I am lucky where I live that my two local stores, there are 3 PGA pros, all of which I know personally, so trust their opinion 100% and also trust they would give the same advice to anyone else in the store they didn't know..

Did you go to AG at Rustington and if yes who did you see there mate.

I went to the Brighton store. Very good service, no complaints there. I just want to make sure everything is right about it if I'm going to spend £280 on a club.

I also hit the new AP2's. WOW! They are special.

Would be pointless anyway, you'd change back after 3 months :D

AG is Newbury is quite good

Not anymore. My teaching pro and club pro have all of the new releases covered and I can try clubs on the practice ground or range. I did use AG before to try new gear just to see what they were like. In the old days my mate was the assistant manager at one store so he was always giving me gear to hit. Having had several poor fittings in several local stores and seeing what they recommended (way off in so many ways compared to comparable figures from a club pro) I just wouldn't trust their data

Ok I'm going to back AG here, I got fitted for the current big dog there over almost two seasons ago, I tried everything that was on the market at that time and whittled it down to what suited me, the swing speed was about right at 106/107 and I was fitted for a club that suited me, while distances may be based on optimum conditions, if you compare old dog verses new dog it's effectively like for like.... So both drivers would be juiced respectively.

The only downside I see is that with a swing speed of 115+ , shaft options may be limited.

Out of interest what driver was it?

At those swing speeds AG really arent your best bet, their shaft options just dont cover that range well at all. You need to find someone who has a proper fitting cart for whichever driver (s) you want and get a proper fit from him, ideally on a decent launch monitor. You may need a heavy stiff or an x-stiff if the speeds are right but really is worth trying a decent range of shafts

Titleist 913 D3. It had the heavier 70 gram lower ball flight shaft in it and worked well but I felt it could work better if it was a bit stiffer. My current stiff flex 65 gram mid ball flight shaft feels too whippy for me.

I personally would not trust AG for fittings. I lost respect for them when I demo some irons and they had the 7 iron at 185 yard carry which I knew was rubbish. I went to my local club and tried the exact same club and measured it out at 148 yard carry. But it really does seem to vary from store to store. Some horror stories and some good

I as in the Gateshead AG with a mate, I was in the Market for a new lower lofted Hybrid and fancied the 913H in 19 degrees, tried liked it, but it had the shaft in I knew worked for me, all I had to do was hit it, which I did and according to the AG stats I was launching the ball out to 230yds with 19 degree hybrid

Not on your life could I hit said hybrid that far, so, yes, I do believe they beef up their stats and no, I wouldn't have a fitting at AG

I was also wearing a shirt and work shoes as I had gone to AG straight from work. As I hit the gym a fair bit, my shirts are fairly tight around my arms, I would most likely swing faster in loose fitted clothing and some footwear that had some grip.

I think the suggestion of going somewhere that had better shaft options is a good idea. Does anyone know of a good place in Sussex I could visit?

As stated by fundy with that driver I'd want to visit someone with a full shaft range
