I've played a lot of golf with Americans and found them to be great company and they welcomed me into their group. Many were military or ex-military guys and on the golf course they didn't give a toss about rank. The Americans get some stick on this forum but let's remember that the status enjoyed by The Open is partly down to people like Palmer, Nicklaus, Watson, Trevino etc. I can't stick the cretins who shout ''Go in the hole!'' or ''You're the man'', but let's be fair.

Random thread of the day goes to Shanker, congratulations matey, come on up and collect your Dodgey Golf towel and 3 egg sized marbles! :)
Random?? Well, I had swallowed a few glasses of the smooth, red Spanish liquid when I posted but RANDOM it wasn't. Too many of you hate our cousins from the other side of the pond. I'm sticking to my guns.

I just didnt see where this post came from matey, I honestly dont mind american views towards golf, like you I dont appreciate the "get in the hole" contingent though. They have their hackers as well as european clubs etc too.
As above, I never saw any "Hate the Yanks" threads so thought it was a random rant.

I have played with americans a couple of times. I found them to be very pleasant but unfortunately hit the ball twice as far as me.

Shanker, I base my opinion on what I hear at the PGA events (yooo da man, git in di hole, and good shat) and the fact I have only ever played golf with one Ya .. American who was a pure arse who knew everything but in fact knew eff all.

We were playing at Prestwick Golf Club which was founded in 1851 and had Old Tom Morris as Master of the Greens. On the 9th, a large Plane flew into Prestwick Airport to which 'Big Al' said to me 'its a great course, but why did they build it next to an Airport?'

Nuff said.

I am very prejudiced towards our "friends" accross the Atlantic as many of you know. I haven't played golf with one and the simple reason is that everything I have ever heard from an American Golfer/Fan makes me want to throttle them.

Americans have served to annoy me in life in general, the last time I went to see "the phantom of the opera" there was an American man whooping loudly at the end and he actually said "you da man" to the actor who was playing the role of Raoul. What an utter tool.

I have sound reason for my prejudice towards them although I suppose I am guilty of generalisation based on limited experience of them. Im sure there is a decent american somewhere?

Point taken. Maybe I was unfair to you lot but I still think many of you would be surprised at how enjoyable it is to play golf with some ''yanks''.

I have played golf on a couple of occasions with our American cousins,i found them to be good company,a bit loud at times but nothing really bad,American golf fans are another matter entirely.

I play in Florida every spring, and get mix and matched to get a game. Have played with loads of yanks, and on the whole they are the most friendly and welcoming people. Always a laugh to play with, fair mix of ability.

One lot I played with two saturdays running last year, playing nine ball skins (3 groups of 3, scores / money won worked out in the club house). All of them were great fun. There are not many courses in the UK where a complete stranger, and foreigner to boot would be invited to split up 2 four balls by that same group of golfers, not the starter.

I am not a great fan of america, but the golfers are fine.

I've only played once with our American cousins, whilst on honeymoon in Hawaii and I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable games of golf I have played.

Got paired up randomly, and the banter was great, lots about the Ryder Cup, and I kept them in their place by handing out a bit of a beating.

Standard of golf was quite high, and I was particularly amused by the huge cigars that 2 of them were puffing away on.

All in all a really enjoyable 4hrs with 3 really nice guys!

I have played with Americans on many occasionns and have yet to have a bad experience with them. That said, the ones I have played with have travelled half way across the world specifically to play golf, so I suppose they will possibly be at the top end of the gene pool.
For the lower end you only have to watch the 16th at the FBR Open every year.

I've played golf with many Americans and rate some as close friends. Warm, open and welcoming people. The muppets who shout at tournaments are not representative of the general golfing public.
