At the moment 10 of the top 16 are Americans. I think the Claret Jug will be winging its way to the USA on Sunday evening although I´m also praying that Darren does it.
What will the yankee-bashers on this board say if the trophy crosses the pond?

If Darren doesn't do it I hope jiminez does. It would be great for the claret jug to head back to spain after the passing of seve earlier this year. If it goes to a American player well you'd just have to say fair play to them. Anybody who puts 4 good rounds together in the weather they have had deserves applauding no matter where they come from.

Dustin johnson is looking good, so too poster boy Ricky Fowler. Would not be at all surprised to see one of them win. A bit annoyed that none of our much hyped 'links specialists' is in contention. Shows them for what they are I'm afraid.

I'm not keen on Ricky and have no opinion on DJ.
Sadly, Jimenez probably won't catch up enough and Bjorn probably doesn't have the game for a "hot" round, whereas one of the US players probably does. Glover seems too cool (as in relaxed, not Fonzy) for it all. Darren could hold on, trouble is I fear one of the young guns will sneak in a 67 or 68 and pip him by one....

or a play-off?

I'd be SO pleased if Darren won.... :)

Dustin Johnson seems great to me. A really un-American American.

I would be pleased if he won but would not be too thrilled at the prospect of any other US player winning, apart from Tom Watson naturally...

I will be rooting for Darren all the way though...

CUM'ON DARREN, IN THE HOLE :D

Failing that, I would like to see Dustin win it, i like him.

Seems Humble and respectful and was sooooo close last year

DC or Jimenez preferably. If not them then Bjorn.
Don't take to Fowler (it's that 12 year old image) but I have to admit he's shown his ability; I wouldn't discount him. Johnstone is a good solid golfer, played a few Euro Tour matches I think - wouldn't take much for him to win.

The worst thing about an American winning would be that prat Nantz - we'd never hear the last of it (have to admit though that 'our' commentators have enjoyed rubbing it in).

Not surprised to see Johnson up there. He played decently at the RC on the friday - what play there was.
A little surprising to see so many Yanks up there and not many Brits - but there's not a whole heap of links golf played anymore. The Amateurs, like Lewis, play a bit but then turn Pro asap. Years ago they took longer to turn Pro and got a bit more experience on links.

6 former Major winners (5 Americans and a German) within 6 shots of Clarke, be interesting to see if that 'getting over the line' experience comes to the fore. The experience of doing it before must help. Any of them shoot a 67, it could be good enough.

Should be good.

I agree. Trouble is, some of our commentators have put UK players on a pedestal with comments like "he can play in the wind" "he was born on links courses"...and all that jazz.

Surely it was obvious Luke wouldn't find it easy, he's a target player, and probably the best in the world at picking a yardage and a spot. Lee's not great at putting, which was always going to be problematic on such large and undulating greens. You've got to either be a fantastic scrambler (like Padraig at his best) or a tee-green machine that can accept far more putts than one would like to make (like Darren).

Fair play to the US players that are just getting on with it and proving a good game can still work in wind and rain.

Wow. I hadn't seen that in the line up. Pretty scary for anyone who's not done it.

Good spot. :)

Been really impressed with Fowler especially as he's not had the best of the weather. If I remember right Thursday afternoon was worse than the morning, and he played in that rain today for 13 or 14 holes? Can't remember Fridays weather. Anyone?

He's not just played his own game very well, he's adapted to the conditions and played a range of shots very creatively, and well.

Not sure if i would rather see Milckelson or Clarke win closely followed by Johnson, Fowler or Garcia although i expect Garcia is well out of it.

Got to say not loving the BBC commentators although Nantz is ok. Prefer Harmon when he works for Sky.

Clarke is already nervy on the shorter putts, by tomorrow he will be a wreck. Bjorn has had his good round and is clinging on, albeit clinging on real well! Glover doesnt look like he has it. Jimenez has played well, not sure he has enough. Fowler has a great record of getting in contention then hacking. Mickelson's short putting is woeful. I think its down to Dustin, and an outside chance for Kim who no-one has ever mentioned and no TV coverage. BBC could have the honour of about 40 hours live coverage and never shown the winner!
