So I had my mystery shop gig for AG today. Had to ask a question to the shop assistant so I asked him about reshafting clubs. Relevant for me because my clubs were sat in the shed for 7 years until January this year and have a number of rust spots. He mentioned it would be about £50 a club to fit new shafts and recommended just buying a new set. Is this just him trying to sell me a set or does it actually cost that?

I don't feel I need new clubs as before I stopped playing I was shooting low 80's with the occasional round in the 70's and now I'm shooting high 80's/low 90's after only playing golf again for 4 months, with a lot of room for improvement!

£50 a club may be right depending on what shaft and grip you put on the club but £50 should never be the stock answer. AG probably aint really geared for this type of work anyway

So it's probably better just to buy a new set then given how much it would cost? Most of the clubs have rust spots on them but I can see a couple like my pitching wedge have it quite serious where the clubhead meets the shaft. That's just waiting to fly off!

Ultimately it's your shout but you may find better technology in the clubs now than there was 7 years ago also if you have the budget for a new set then why not

Sounds like a case for new shineys to me.

I wouldn't let most AG staff near my clubs. If you are looking at reshafting why not have a chat with your local pro who may be able to give you a better choice of shafts and also do a deal on the cost

Nearly a year ago I broke the shaft on my Callaway X22 8 iron. It cost me #40 for a new shaft fitted, including a new Lampkin grip (and they polished/cleaned up the head as new too)

I wrapped my 6 iron round a tree on the 18th thankfully, two weeks ago and snapped it in half. Bit silly granted but it happened. Anyway spoke to my pro after my round and he took it off me. It was back with new shaft fitted etc for the following saturday and only cost me £30.

I needed to reshaft my gap wedge last week. First quote from my pro was £17 including grip. Unfortunately, when he got the head it needed a tapered tip which was a little more expensive, plus I asked for a specific grip so cost me £30 in the end.

I agree with Ethan, advice to buy a new set over £50 per club is not bad advice. But on the quote I had for my gap wedge, I'd look elsewhere for a competitive quote on the re-shafting before making a final decision.

it surely depends on the shafts spec required. A local fitter/club repairer fitted a true temper dynamic gold shaft in a wedge for me inc grip for £19.00, to confirm thats him supplying shaft & grip, and labour to swap.
