Was in one of the American Golf stores in Edinburgh at the weekend and had a wee play on their putting matt where all the putters are lined up. Now, i could be wrong, but i could swear that they have manufactured the surface to feed the ball into the hole no matter what you do. I even tried aiming 1" left or right and the ball still dropped in the hole! Either that or i am all of a sudden a putting guru!!!

Good sale on clothing on though.

I am afraid that is the usual urban myth. The greens are dead flat, but the holes have very sharp edges, which catch the ball, and turn it in, unlike the crowned holes we usually have to deal with on the course.

I have to strongly agree with this. It's very noticeable how the holes seem to have very much sharper edges when the greens are prepared for pro tournaments. I played a round at Sunningdale (Old) last year immediately after the Seniors Open Championship and the holes were superb, apparently the greenkeepers had not yet changed the hole positions after the tournament! I had one of my best ever putting rounds. :D

You should be so lucky. There's a left to right break on one of the holes at my local AG. :)

I have been known to play a "par 5" from the sales desk.
They put up with my idiosyncrasies. The customer is always right.

My branch in leeds is the same, however I find chipping off the sales desk often leaves a better line to the hole than if you play a 9 iron around the Taylormade drivers, if you aren't a long hitter then just lag up behind the wilson staff stand and play from there for an easy per.
