American golf putter fitting at Exeter today

Well today was the day i got fitted for a new putter courtesy of Golf Monthly.My current putter is a taylormade belly putter and i was struggling with long putts with this and i wanted to go back to a traditional putter.Arrived at the store at 12.45 and met up with the other forum winner pokerjoke the golf monthly crew had not arrived yet so we both took a look around the store and particular the putter section.AG had all the latest scottys taylormade ping rife and nike putters.Both our attention was drawn more towards the scotty putters they all looked surperb and the new darker models looked stunning.Just before 1 Paul and the photographer arrived at the store and after the handshakes Paul explained what would happen.A American golf fitter introduced himself and he was a pretty good golfer playing off +1 and playing at county level. it was his job to give us his advise and opinion about what putter suited our stroke etc.i was allowed to choose 3 putters to try but couldnt deside between 2 similar shaped putter but eventually my 3 types were the Taylormade ghost raylor.Odyssey white ice 2 ball and the Scotty cameron Del mar.after about 20 putts the Taylormade was ruled out so it was down to two.The fitter said i had a very straight back and straight through stroke.Had another 20 putts with each and must admit never missed many with each.But to me and the fitter it was clear that the Odyssey suited my stroke best and helped with my alignment. So sadly the Del Mar was ruled out but i was now the new owner of a brand new 34inch 2 ball Odyssey putter.I then had a few photos taken with the putter and pokerjoke and then finally had to do a bit to camera.
Think it will not be in Magazine til about September but i had a great afternoon out and would like to say a big thankyou to the GM Team and all at American golf Exeter.ps now got a belly putter for sale.New putter straight in bag for weekly medal tomoz

did they have the new metal face Odyssey putters? If so how did they compare to the insert ones?

I did not see any new metal face ones but my new short stick putts like a dream and the putter wasworth £139 and i got it for free.

nice write up mate, out of interest did you take your old putter along to compare or did you just use feel?

Yes I took my putter along but it was mainly down to feel. Once I finished the fitting one of the AG guys tried my putter as he has never used one before. He was in shock coz he hates the idea of belly putters but he could not miss. He even putted from one side of shop to other side a good 50feet plus and holed it. He took my number and is thinking about making me a offer for mine now

Did you take a V-Easy with you too? I wouldn't have been able to go without mine if I had done this!

I never used a v easy training aid never seen one before until I googled it when you asked me. The fitter liked my putting stroke and asked what handicap I have when I said 6 he was surprised and asked if I had ever been lower as my stoke was so good.I had such a big head after he said that. Shame as the rest of my game must be holding me back from getting lower.
