Has anyone ever tried/managed to get a discount on a cash sale from the above?

I am coming into some money in the next couple of months and fancy treating myself.

The plan is a new driver and fairway wood,a set of irons,a putter and a new trolley.

I dont intend to trade any goods in as part of the purchase. I would prefer to buy in person rather online.

Approx spend could be around £800
Thanks in advance.

You will almost definately find the gear cheaper online so go and test it all out , find out what you want from there and then go for a coffee and search online then go back and ask them to price match, I've done this numerous times and never had an issue , even when I asked them to price match there £140 hybrid to £49 .

I always get 10% discount. But - they still work out dearer than online sites and Direct Golf on most stuff.
They will price match so worth doing some basic price checks.

They always offer a price match, although twice they have failed to match a price as apparently " direct golf is not a recognised store "

I'd try it, shop about and offer them the chance to match the price. If not then walkies

I'd go to the manager when you get to the store and tell him what you plan. I wouldn't mention price match and then see what takes your fancy and see what he offers. If it's not good then talk about a price match and then remind him its a cash deal. Of course if you have already done your homework and know what you want to buy why not give the club pro the business. I'm sure he'll be more than happy to do a deal for cash

Cash sale won't mean anything to them, they aren't a tradesman doing a bit of cash in hand off the books work.
But you can usually get 10% just by asking. Price match is usually the way to go for the best deal though, never had any quibble as long you are matching a reputable site.
I even went in and price matched a bushnell, the guy said we can do better than that, and matched it to somewhere he knew of that was £20 cheaper than what I found.

i got them to price match eBay!

How can they say that, I have walked into Direct Golf many a time, its a proper bricks & mortar shop as well as online. The store prices are the same as their online prices.

I agree with Homer, decide what you want and then ask your pro to price match they are usually very keen to do this

They were quite good to me too, I wanted the Callaway XHot Driver and 3 Wood that was on offer for £199 a while back. I went in to buy it only to find out the offer ended 2 weeks previously. They still honoured the offer price for me.

My advice would be go get fitted by them for what you want find out what you like best then walk away and say I will have to think about it. Go on the internet and find the cheapest price of everything, then go back and tell them you want everything price matched 😀😀

They price matched some shoes for me yesterday in their Birmingham store against Clubhousegolf.co.uk

Excellent customer service from them too, very helpful

I am not a big fan of AG, but this isn't necessarily about just them. Why do a lot of people want to use them, DG and others and not their club pro or pro shop at the local range? There seems to be a trend away from that towards the high street retailers and surely that isn't going to be great long term for the existence of a golf pro in most clubs. I know a few on here don't have one attached already and it would seem that number will decline. If they are prepared to offer a deal on a set of clubs and it came in say £20-40 more, is that really a deal breaker in the scheme of things when your're already spending £500+ on irons. Just a point of view

This all makes for an interesting read - always seems very negative towards AG. I'm a store manager with American Golf and have been for the past 4 years. The picture painted on here doesn't really replicate what happens in store...well, my store anyway.
I have 3 PGA Qualified staff members who offer an exceptional level of custom fitting in store..far better than my surrounding PGA competitors. We have an unrivalled level of stock in our store which means that if you want something, there is a good chance that we'll have it.
The level of customer service in my store is of an extremely high standard and something that is reviewed on a daily basis. When you ask "Why do a lot of people want to use them" I often ask myself why not.
I've been a PGA Professional since 1994 and on joining AG I admit I wondered if I was selling my soul to the devil - but they have been a brilliant company to work with, offering amazing training and support. Our current CEO has implemented that our companies existence is to improve peoples games and I can see the company really going all out to do that with everyone who comes through the door. I daily see customers leaving my store with not only incredible value, but with hope in the products that we have helped them pick. Under no circumstances do we ever do the following:
"Oh sir - you're a standard fit, just so happens I have them in stock"
"TaylorMade are fantastic, but you need to get yourself one of the Nicklaus or John Letters drivers."
It's all a myth - I can assure you. Our goal is to help our customers and, in my store, this happens day in day out.

So in response now to the customer who started this thread - go to your local AG store and have a friendly conversation with them about what you are looking to buy and, if you want, tell them you're after a deal or have seen them cheaper online. The salesman will welcome this - after all we'd rather you bought from us than from someone else. We of course price match and there is no problem there. The products must be like for like and you can't trade in when having a price match. Don't go in there with the attitude that we're there to rob you of your money or sell you something you don't need - I can assure that the sales associate is there hoping that he can help you and will do his best to provide you with the right product at the right price. It won't cost you anything to give him a chance.

Best of luck!
:)
