after playing football and just dropping down the levels to keep playing i finally retired at 42 im now 50 took up the golf seriously about 3 years ago got my first ever handicap of 19, had played golf as a boy and had always played 2 or 3 times a year outings etc but i wish i had given up footie and bought new irons 20 years ago, handicap now 13.5 how low do you think i could get and does single figures seem realistic for someone who plays 2 to 3 times a week before age gets to me lol

Member of our club took up game in late 40's and is now 70 and off 4. Plenty of time for you to get to single figures.

A good pro and practice wisely will get you down to single figures.
Identify the area of your game that needs the most improvement and make it your strength.
More often than not the only difference between mid teen handi appers and single figures is the short game

Never too late imo,i myself played football before taking up golf, and i wish i had sooner.
Started with an official 24hp and got to 9 in two years,so to answer your question, yes you can.

Playing of thirteen you are not really too far away from single figures anyway! All I would do is concentrate on short game and putting and you will lose a couple of shots easy!

Second this. I'd also add that course management is a big factor too. Take your medicine and don't let a bad hole become 3 bad holes and you will soon be off 8/9.

Realistically, I believe you'll never be as good as you could have been if you'd started younger but there's no reason why you couldn't achieve single figures.

Go for it! :)

I wouldn't plan to retire from work to join the Senior Tour, but you could certainly get down to a very respectable handicap if you have the aptitude, time and patience for it.

Play as much golf with low h/caps as you can and see how they get round the course.
You might find it's not all about the birdies and eagles they make, it's more the mistakes they don't.

I believe there are 1 or 2 good players if Fife so you should be ok :D

Thanks guys im new to this forum but im getting addicted now i see what my daughters used to see in msm its sort of a personal goal of mine to get to 9.4 or below it's my holy grail but golf is tough and just when you think yer getting there bang but thanks for the encourgement and advice will give it my best shot and if ever anybody is up in fife let me know would love to arrange a game and put a few faces to all the names sounds like you all have a great time at all the meets cheers

Not too late, but I would say you need to play a bit more than two or three times a week in order to make some inroads.

I would say have a few lessons, practise twice a week and play once or twice and you'll do it. Easy.
