I ask the people i play with after a round whats your favourite shot and the reply is usually the same the drive at the 4th , or the iron into the green or that long putt, i seem to be different i get more enjoyment out of a great recovery shot than a good drive or putt. What are yours ?

I enjoy a good recovery but the reason i believe people don't mention this is firstly because many don't hit good recovery shots and secondly because people tend to remember the shot before (being bad).

Fondly remember a 9 iron from among the trees over the tops, dropping onto the green 2 feet from the flag:whoo:but sadly I also remember the drive and 5 iron that put me in the trees:o.

I dont get yours at all.
Purely for the fact that if you hit a good drive, you wouldnt need a recovery shot at all.

My favorite shot, that gives me most satisfaction is a purely
struck iron that goes exactly the right distance intended.

The best shot of my life was a 30 yard chop out over a gorse bush onto a down sloping green to 5 foot for a par. I did not know it at the time but it won me a regional championship.

[It even eclipsed my driver hole in one.]

Recovery shots are satisfying, but seeing a ball flying straight down the fairway from the tee, or seeing the ball flying and pitching lovely on the green cant be beaten :one:

I too love a well struck iron but who doesn't get a buzz from working out how to play from a tricky lie then executing it exactly as you saw it and getting the ball back in play or close to the pin when the odds were against, especially in match play or when there's a good round at stake (cf Bubba at the Masters or the shot featuted in my post on the Genius of Seve).

For me I just like any full shot that is hit flush out of the middle of the club. Easily pleased, I guess.

I'm with you here chap. Played a round a few weeks ago with good drives, and approaches 3 Birdies and a 30ft putt, BUT what made my round was the following.......I hit my drive under a big oak tree, I'm 100yrds to the green with the branches 20ft in front of me and 8ft off the ground, so I pulled out my 7-iron which I normally hit 160yrds, half a swing with a sawn off follow through and back in my stance to 7ft! Made my round!

I get a great feeling from a recovery shot, (as I get to practice them so often), but on todays round I got great satisfaction from my chips onto the green, but until my driving improves the recovery will be the ones I am most pleased with.
