Something I'm not the best at but when I spotted the Council tax going out twice I gave them a call. Somehow they'd managed to set up a Direct Debit without my authority - still looking into that one. They had a mandate from 4 years ago but we've always paid the full year in one go since...

But looking further down the statement I spot what I thought was one of the many Life Policies I have - no it isn't. Someone has gone into my bank, pretending to be me, with a DD mandate they've filled in to their account.

And just by doing a root and branch clear out I'm saving a fortune.

If ouve got enough money not to check you statement, you deserve to share a bit

I agree. HID was having insurance taken out from a closed policy

I'd notice the day after it went if someone took a DD that I wasn't expecting.

Councils apparently are notorious for taken double payments which is why I pay by standing order. My dad warned me a couple of years ago... sneaky sods
