Just an idea to get a different perspective on driving, based on some numbers that we can all relate to each other.

Still not massively scientific but hey ho!

If you can take a good guess at them, subtract your average offline of your drives, from your average total distance.
Not average as in including miss-hits, but just a semi-decent drive. So a 250 yard driver who can often be 20yds offline gets a result of 230.

Idea unashamedly stolen from Big Break :o - No, not the one with John Virgo.

Choose your result from the poll, explain if you wish.

I've gone for 240.

Don't have kept stats for this one but guessing at 260-20

P.S. The first person to call anyone out on numbers has the lurgy. It's just a bit of fun.

That's quite clever but I will be the first to say depends what day it is with my drives.

On average I would say 265 yards distance probably 20 yards average offline so 245 for me

I think "it depends" will apply to most of us, but no-one will be publishing the results in a scientific paper ;)

This is so hugely day dependent for me.
As I've said before, my driving is rarely average - either really good or shocking!
So I've gone for a 230 average.
Bad days can be less than 200 but good ones nearer 260.
Fortunately, at the moment anyway, I'm nearer the upper number most of the time thanks to the 815....

In regular conditions I can now hit 240/245. G30 has defo made a difference for me.
Favourable conditions I can it 260 and tough conditions can make it 210/215.
Over the course of a round I expect and average of 225ish.

I've driven the ball further, but in general it's around the 240-250yd mark.

Are these both distance MINUS offline?

Ave drive 270-280 less ave offline 15-20 = approx. 257 ave combined 'ish

Sounds like OP is aiming at a form of normalisation of driving distance - not sure that subtracting offset from centre line of fairway against length is way to go. Maybe a wee bit of Squaw on the Hippopotamus is what's really needed but info required to do that not something we can easily guess at :)

I put 220 - 239. Based on, 225 with a 3 wood, my Driver is probably about 235 - 240. When I drive good, most of the time its crap so I leave my driver in the bag. Took it out on Saturday and had an OK round with it.

I'd say I average about 240 yards and I accept a dispersion of 20 yards, but I've gone for 200-219 as I'm fairly certain my average would be closer to 215 yards than 25 yards...

Are these both distance MINUS offline?

If I launch one straight, not very often, I can get it out to around 270+ and if you could take the bend out of my slices and have them straight they would be around the 270 mark, but if you take my drive a measure from where they head off the fairway, it's around the 240-250 mark.

If I deliberately hit it to the RHS of the fairway does that count as offline? :)

Seriously though - I'm guessing the point of the OP is that some claim enormous distances off the tee - and yes these can be achieved from time to time - but often the same swing will result in a hugely wayward shot.

In benign conditions with ball landing on the level I'll hit it about 250-260yds fairly consistently. Lateral spread from fairway CL will be maybe max 15m - these days I usually hit the fairway or 1st cut.

You should have got the vapour pro, + 60yds over the speed

Try mine if you want :D

You could be right. I just went with the speed option due to being a mid/high handicapper and all write ups said i was what it was aimed at !!! I'm due to win a load of money c£400 in various fantasy football competitons over the next few weeks so might check the pro out or the other one!!! The speed should retain some part ex value if it really is that much shorter !!!!

I'd guess my average drive is 240 to 250 yards, less the average miss (factoring in the big misses :o) would bring me into the 200 - 219 bracket.
