I have a Callaway Apex hybrid, 20⁰, bought second hand. I've been hitting it higher than I'd like so I thought I'd reduce the loft. There are a few options so I checked out a YouTube video. Starting point, there is a line on the head, line on the shaft. These should be lined up. They weren't, they were on opposite sides.

The grip has a ribbed line going up it, it's now on the underneath side, not the top. It's a geoleap grip. Is it now the correct way?

I've been using this for a month. Would it have made a difference, the shaft facing the wrong way? What difference?

I've now lined them up, altered the loft and will see how it goes

Absolutely no idea what effect reversing the head would have on the loft/lie or anything else......
It almost certainly wouldn't be at the loft you thought it was though....

Can you post some pictures please ?
Bit confused, but if you look at the back of the head the cog letter and number lined up with the head is the setting the club head is at.
The shaft could be rotated around to give the grip line on top as opposed to underneath.. this may be the previous owners preference as it would give a good indication of where the thumbs on the grip should be.

Just to throw another spanner in the works - I once bought a second hand club that had a left-handed shaft in it, so I had to set it 'higher' for lower and 'lower' for higher. Luckily I bought it in a shop and they told me, or else I'd have never figured that out..

The grip was designed for the strip to be centre rear.

Not all settings on the hosel are shown, but reading that as standard first, Draw and -1 off stated loft.

I believe on Callaway S is standard, assume that may be to the side of D, but don't quote me.

I'd always start - S - and crank up or down from there.

Thanks @Burnsey I feel happier reading that. I just assumed the grip would be red stripe up.

Yes, it has S as well as D, +1 as well as -1. I've gone -1 as it was so lofted before but I suspect I've had everything upside down up until now so who knows what it was set to 😂.

I'm having a social knock on Saturday so I might even take the wrench with me if it feels all wrong when I use it then.

I thought Callaway hosels are changeable without the grip moving around?
The shaft was turned the wrong way around, hence the grip was also facing the wrong way. The line on the hosel / shaft was facing the wrong way to the line on the back of the head.

I've since turned it around, as per the pictures above. They are 'after' pictures only, no before 😄

Oh, I see, I had a little look at the Optifit adapter, and while I used a Callaway driver briefly and learnt what does what, I've forgotten, and everything looks really complicated now :sneaky:

I think that’s possible with the sleeve for a left handed club.
Incidentally Callaway have a pro adapter that increases the loft variation.

@Lord Tyrion, was the issue just height? And shot shape was normal? The “D” setting does compensate for de lofting but it may not be enough
Yes, just height. I want this club to give me a bit of run as well as distance. To do that I want a lower trajectory.

I went for the d setting just because a draw is sexy and if I can get one it would be fun 😍. I can always set it back to neutral if I start hooking it.

I dont think that the orientation of the shaft would be important in terms of loft/lie....these are governed by the dual cogs and their realtionship to the head.

If the shaft was oriented incorrectly then perhaps it might underperform in terms of the way it flexes in relation to the shot direction (i.e. getting into the realms of shaft "puring") but other than that it would have no impact on loft/lie. The only thing,as you have found, is the orientation of the ribbed grip and how it sits in your hands.

Looks like whoever had the club before you didn't realise that the Callaway cogs are designed so the shaft doesn't turn when changing the settings. You have it the correct way round now, the red line is supposed to help with making sure you grip the club the same each time as you should feel that ridge running through the same part of your fingers/hand when you grip it.

I can confirm that the grip also works well the other way around 😂. I could line up my thumbs on it, now I'll line my fingers on it 👍
