I've not been consistant at all over the winter with my Nike VRS str-8 driver. Part of that I accept may be due to the fact that it has been winter and its been a case of one round a week with no practice, but everytime I have hit a bad shot with it my mind is full of doubt the next time I go to use it.

With my Benross HOT 3 wood its a completely different story. If I hit a bad shot with that I have no dip in confidence using it again and can hit it well maybe 80% of the time.

So I made the decision to go for a new driver in time for the golf season getting back under way and wanted to go with Benross. I had a hit of both the RIP and HOT drivers and was recommended the 10 degree RIP driver with regular shaft. 2013 model for £90!

On the course on Sunday and what a difference it has made. I wasn't perfect by any means (I am a mid handicaper) but I was getting mostly straight drives and at least 265/270 yards. But for some duffed chips and bunker shots I had what felt like my best (certainly most positive) round of the winter.

Benross is the future! every mid/high handicaper should have Benross woods in their bag. They give so much confidence through the course and for about 1/2 or 1/3 of the price of the latest greatest branded woods.

I have heard nothing but praise for their kit, i have hit some of it and was really impressed to! I would have no qualms in sticking some benross in my bag!

I smell a benross twitter or facebook competition win coming your way :smirk:

:ears:

Glad you've found something that works. I've enjoyed using a good bit of the Benross Kit over the last few months and I'm impressed with the lot of it.

Forum driving distance?

I ripped 3 drives on Sunday, and thought this must be in the 280 region. Turns out they were all around 210 / 220...

I was wondering similar! I was playing in the winter fourballs on Saturday and was just not getting the sort of carry I was expecting. There's no run on the course right now of course but I did feel it was about me not swinging as well - more range time needed.

I've looked at GM reviews of equipment over the years and I've noticed that Benross come out consistently as one of the favourites and especially the best buy. Their kit is certainly a lot cheaper than the big-named others. I'm considering trying one of their new drivers as soon as I'm back in business on the course.

Know some good low handicappers that swear by Benross kit, it might not have the sex appeal of TM/Titleist/<<Insert major brand name her>> but there appears to be some substance to the stuff they're putting out!

Played with some reasonable hitters at the weekend and definitely not in the 265-270 range! That said there's a lot of good things being said about Benross at the moment. My issue would always be one of availability. How many pro shops are stockists which would tend to steer you to the big retailers. Again, how many options in terms of models or shafts can you try.

How many shafts would you need homer ?? Regular steel or graphite, they offer both of those

I had few preconceptions before my benross fitting last week, I was really looking for the fairway/hybrid option, but I did think that it would struggle to match my current driver, which goes pretty well.

My eyes were opened, I was happy to be led by the fitter, and not get hung up on top line, shaft flex etc. I walked away with a bag full of clubs I wouldn't have looked at previously.

The fitting numbers and the visual feedback didn't lie. I'm due to receive a bag full of game improvement, graphite regular shafted clubs, which I hit further, and better than my current line up. With the benross clubs I'm getting, I'm genuinely excited that in can shave another couple of shots off my handicap, and be knocking on the door of cat 1

Granted you can get graphite and steel but my argument would be would you get R and S in steel or graphite in many outlets or just one or the other. They aren't stocked in large numbers that's all

That's a fair comment, ask your pro if he's interested in stocking them, it's chicken and egg. No demand no stock, no stock no demand !!

I think every pro shop should stock a budget brand. Mine has MD gear in. As some pro shops do not stock bargain stock from last year or second hand and many cannot afford the latest big name kit at near full RRP it makes sense to have a budget brand in stock.
