Afternoon all, our usual crew of golfers are heading off to Alicante for a 5/6 day extravaganza at the end of April next year. I was wondering if any of you had been out there before and could you recommend any courses / hotels / nights out etc. We have been to, over the years, Algarve, Malaga and Biarittz, most of the guys play off 18-22 with a couple of us off mid single figures so we are looking for some decent courses. Looking at La Manga, El Saler, Villamartin, Finca.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi,
Was there a couple of years ago can't remember any of the courses we used the company below to book the last couple of hols there course rankings are very good also a tip a lot of courses u need a buggy to play them so ask the company u are booking with to give you a list of courses that are doing the buggy included as they are usually 40 to 50 euros

Went to Villamartin about 6 years ago now. We didn't play any of the courses within 5 mins of our Villa as all the greens were top soiled. We did play La Finca and Alto Real (an hour from Villa Martin) which were both good tracks as far as i can remember.
I never made Alicante golf but it's a Seve designed track with 6 par 3's, 4's and 5's which (so i was told) was also very good.
Believe quite a few new courses have sprung up since so plenty to choose from

Where exactly are you staying?

The best courses around have been mentioned. It all depends on budget and location.

Lo romero is in fantastic condition at the moment, a very good track and the friends that came over last month absolutely loved it.

La Serena is another good, fairly new track and again is in great condition.

La Manga is always a great track but very expensive for what it is.

La Finca is nowhere near as good as it once was and was in bad condition 3 months ago, not been back since.

Villamartin - Another good course, fairly cheap and some tricky holes. This and Lo Romero are my preferred choice.

Las Ramblas - Good course, very tight and tricky.

As for nights out, it all depends on location.

Thanks for the info guys, the courses are the important things to get right, entertainment in that part of the world should be pretty easy to sort out I would think!
Looking forward to this as the chances for a game of golf in this part of Scotland are limited for the next 4 months or so.

I have been to Torrevieja 5 times between 1994 and 1998, so my infomations might be outdated. I played the following courses:

Campoamor - very nice resort course, very well maintained take a cart!

Las Ramblas - highly recommended, one of the most spectacular courses I ever playd. I have heared though, that there are now houses all around so maybe not quite that scenic as 10 years ago

Villamartin - always in good condition but not very exciting

Alto Real - fairly new then and always very hot, not a must-play course

La Maquesa - to avoid. fairways in piteous condition

La Maga West - spectacular course in good condition. Very new back then too. Take a cart!

Enjoy Spain. Good food, good wine, great bars and pubs and good entertainment facilities

I can recommend using golf-service.com - we booked courses near malaga through them over the summer and the service was great.

They even sent me a refund when one of the courses brought out a better offer after I'd booked!

Like others have played Las Rambalas, Campamor and Villa Martin. Las Rambalas is definately worth a go and good value. WE had a nightmare 5+ hour rounds at the other two in late March a couple of years ago. At Villa martin they were shoving as many onto the course at the 10th as they could, very greedy attitude. Also the "quality" of some of the golfers leaves a bit to be desired, hence the long rounds.
