Alhama Course. Murcia

This is one of my least favorite course's at mircia. Its good but not as good as saurines or riqualme (probably spelt it wrong). If your in the area you must play los colinas and la manga south course. Two proppa peaches

Is La Manga south as good as it used to be / is hyped up to be? People (the internet) say it's become a bit of a over played over priced under kept course?

I played it October just gone and thought it was amazing. The green where in great condition as was the rest of the course. It cant comment on the traffic as i was off first so we had a clear road. It did look busy when we finished.

I wouldn't say its worth the green fee of £90 but when in rome (or spain)

Cool ok. We played (and are going to play again) Las Ramblas which I love as a course, but again it's slow and over-crowded. Only a £50ish round though, so not too bad.

This is one of the Nike IRM courses I haven't played. I've played most of the others - off to Murcia next month for a few rounds on Saurines (Dessert course) & Mar Menor too. You played many others?

Yeah played La Manga ten years or so ago...it was OK, played La Torre which i found very tricky, not long but tricky....Mar Menor which i like a lot...typical Jack style course....most of the holes are inviting you to wack it which i like.

Thinking about the rest of the IRM courses next and Las Ramblas and Colinas have a good reputaion so might try them.

Any views on La Finca?

I actually didn't think much of La Torre, it was short, and the course wasn't in great condition when we played. Also, the complex it's on felt very unfinished, with the "abandoned" hotel and all that.

Haven't played La Finca, that's not one of the IRM courses is it?

Hi there,

I played la finca a couple of years ago when I was staying in the hotel adjacent to the course. The course is decent enough, and is split into 2 parts with around half a dozen holes situated in the middle of the houses across the road leafing down to the clubhouse. There's some water features on some of the holes but that doesn't make it a particularly difficult course.

id also agree with hovis in his post above regarding las colinas, great course that I'd recommend and suggest you play.

i played La Torre and El Valle along with Las Colinas and Las Ramblas last year. Las Colinas was significantly better than the other three.

No don't think it is....

Was it windy when you played as it was blowing a hoolie when I was there at Mar Menor, (which is apparently the norm)? Makes some of the holes very tricky. There is a cracking par 3 (7th or 8th I think) about 200 yards or so dead into the prevailing wind.

No it was quite still when we played. We were there in October, nice warm day, no real wind. Saurines is windy most of the time, half the course is in a part of the complex which was never built - whilst the course is finished (and lovely) the apartments were 50% built when the company, Polaris World, went bust. So from the 6thish onwards, till the 14th, then the final 3 holes, the course is just open, with miles of farmland around. A great course, quite a test.

You can tell I love Saurines! When I'm there in April we're playing it twice!

OK let me know how you get on...what other courses are you playing while there?

Played all of the IRM courses a couple of years ago. Absolutely love Mar Manor, was based there for 2 holidays so played it about 10 times, great course. Big fan of El Valle and La Torre. Alhama was probably the worst of the IRM courses that I played from memory. Worth checking out if you can get a weekly pass for unlimited golf. We did that both times we were out there and loved it, great value. Other courses worth checking out are Las Colinas and Las Ramblas. I wrote a review here which sums it up nicely. One of the most spectacular, crazy courses I've ever played. Loved it.

Been over for yearly for the past four years.

Los colinas is THE course to play without doubt.

La finca is lovely but make sure you get a buggy cos it's a good bloody walk round!

las ramblas has a reputation as almost being comically difficult

vilarmartin has played well over the lasttwo years.

My favourites in the area are Lo Romero, Las Colinas, La Finca, Hacienda del Alamo and Hacienda Requelme. Roda is okay too.

La Finca has a new greenkeeper, who has made huge improvements in the greens and also contouring and definition of fairways. Far tighter course off the tee now. Bradley Dredge has a house on the course, sometimes lucky to get a game with him.

Would never pay £50 for Rambles, far better deals to be had.
