Just got back from a week in Portugal , stayed in Albufeira. I didn't plan to play any golf and after looking at prices i'm glad . Even taking into account the exchange rate which is dire at the moment , the cheapest round was £45 but that was the only one under £70 .A course near me ,Pine cliffs wanted £56 for nine holes. I reckon if i had gone for a golfing holiday the golf would have cost more than the flights and accomadation
I would get far more out of having a week off at home and planning a golf itinery around that

I suspect the trick lies in planning your trip with golf in mind when advance bookings can be made, and discounts achieved. I play in Murcia and although individual green fees may appear at the level you quote, deals are there to be made and savings tucked away.

Either way, I bet it was warmer there than it has been here...!

I also think that with the continued building of newer courses and stiffer competition, older courses are being forced to put prices up to be economically viable whilst still trying to make sure they get sufficient visitors through the gates.

The newer courses will always be more expensive as they have a greater lure. Even allowing for discounts gained from early booking I am pretty sure a golfing holiday there will be a lot more expensive than many are used to.

I think I'm fortunate in a peverse way as money is so tight at home at present that the only things I'm likely to be able to afford may be the odd society day or a forum meet within Southern England. I won't be affording flights and accommodation to Scotland or Northern meets and probably won't be able to justify huge green fees at the top courses. This means Portugal etc are a pipedream this yar and by the time I can get back on track I'm hoping economics will have changed and become a more attractive proposition again.
