In the past I've given others information on the courses I've played in the algarve. I'd be grateful if I could get some information on the preferred courses and good quality hotels out with the standard run of the mill Oceanico courses and larger hotels in the marina area of Vilamoura.

I've played the 5 main Oceanico courses (Old, Pinhal, millennium,Laguna and Victoria) so would prefer to play other good courses outwit these as part of a 7 day break playing 4 rounds.

I'd appreciate feedback and input from others on the forum.

Thanks

I would suggest you head further West and give Lagos a visit some great hotels to meet any budget and you will find that it is a lot less expensive than Villamoura. Palmares is possibly one of the best courses in the Algarve and has 27 holes that you can enjoy. Your twenty minutes drive to Pinta , Silves or Morgado all good tracks. Played plenty of golf in this area and try to get out three times a year.

I would recommend the Faldo. Which is part of the Oceanico. Course was in great condition and some really tough holes! Vale de lobo was really nice to. Slow start but when you get towards the shore it really comes to life!

The three courses at Quinta do Lago and the nearby Vale do Lobo Ocean would make a fine four rounds. Plenty of accommodation in the area, Vilar do Golf sits in between QdL North and South

:)Hi , out there in 3 weeks staying in Villamoura , my mate has booked us with Links Golf who have a shop on the road to Quinta , English couple i met years ago and we have become good friends , they are also Aim4golf so check them out on the internet and ask for some deals away from Villamoura .

There is now a Hotel on the Quinta Da Ria and Quinta Da Cima Golf complex in Tavira , Both are good courses with Montei Rei the best course in the area nearby , Seve course Quinta Da Val is nearby too with 6x5 , 6x4 and 6x3 and a couple of shorter and cheaper ones in Benamor and Castro Marim .

You can also try The Faldo and O`connor courses and stay up there , good courses but costing a bit more

Vila Sol now has a hotel too , tough course and they are part of the pestana group which have Vale Da Pinta , Gamacho , Silves in their group , Many good deals here too , best bet is you ring Links golf and speak to Ronny and tell her what you want and how much you looking to spent , they are very good price wise and they will only book you where they would stay themselves unlike others that treat you as a number , good luck

I am out there in oct with a group of 8 , looking forward to our little event of stableford and matchplay to decide the champion golfer .....:cool::thup:..William

I have been to Portugal many times, for places to stay, I always stay in a villa in a small place called Guia near Albufeira. Great little town with lots of places to eat in the evening and very easy to get to all the main courses in the area. Getting a villa could also work out cheaper depending on how many of you there are and you have your own privacy with pool etc.

In terms of courses, I've played a range of them. My favourite would be Quinta Do Lago South course, but for the more budget end there is Salgados and Pine Cliff etc, but obviously you get what you pay for

Going to Portugal in 2 weeks, playing the 3 courses at Quinta do Lago, South is my favourite (pretty high on my overall list) not played the 3rd course before but North and South are well worth a visit!

I forget whether it's Royal or Ocean at Vale da Lobo but it's worth it just to get to the 16th tee! Problem with VdL was the marshals were a bit keen, told 2 of our groups to miss a hole out despite the fact they were waiting in the fairway for the group in front to finish the hole?!?!?!

Thanks to to everyone who has provided information & feedback so far. I've got enquiries with YGT and Golf Breaks with regards to Quinta da Lago and Vale da lobo where I'm waiting for them to confirm availability. We're a bit constrained with regards to flights so that's determining the dates we're looking at.

With regards to the other courses in other parts of the Algarve, thanks for that information as these are places we weren't really aware of. I appreciate the help and am looking forward to some golf in the sun.

We were told to hurry up too. Even though we were waiting in the fairway for the group ahead to putt! We couldn't understand why!?

I'm off to Vale do Lobo with the family 1st October for a week. Can't wait. Thanks for the comments above.
We are not taking clubs on this trip and wonder what the quality of hire clubs might be.

There was a good selection of clubs in the airport. I didn't look at prices but they were top quality. There was also a shop in villamoura which had all the latest clubs. I'm sure you will be fine :D

I think the website us called clubs to hire.com, and they have a list of all the clubs you can hire. From what I can remember they're tiered into 3 groups which I think are loosely 1) just clubs 2) clubs for people who've played before {taylormade} 3) better taylormade clubs which are latest models. The 3 level cost was around 30eu/wk 45eu/wk and 55eu/wk. These costs are what I can remember so please check the website yourself to confirm.

My mate at Links Golf got us green fees at VDL for 80 euros , i thought that was good rate , Ocean is the better course i say , the other is all about the 16th , Montei Rei is by far the best course
