In recent weeks I have seen at the end of various television programmes the logo "Albert Sustainable Production" on the final production credit screen.

Now call me a dinosaur if you like, but I'm afraid that as a viewer, I could not give two flying farts that the show I have just watched has been awarded this obviously very highly sought after and worthy accolade.

To me it is merely another indication that the world is going completely bonkers in its wish to try and justify itself and adhere to the mad political correctness agenda. In all honesty it sounds like something straight from the pages of a script for W1A.

If there is anyone out there in the know who can point out one single tangible benefit to me as a viewer, for what I'm afraid I believe strongly is nothing other than total PC nonsense, then I'd be both receptive and keen to know just what exactly such benefits are.

So, you see no personal benefit from them attempting to be Carbon Neutral?

Ah, is that what it means? Why don't they say so then?

What's Albert Sustainable about?

Are we all expected to Google it? Or are they perhaps so keen to fawn around one another in their smug exclusivity to the exclusion of real every day and ordinary people?

I've certainly heard of Carbon Neutral and probably believe that it's a good thing, but Albert Sustainable? Then sorry, but nah.

Albert and Albert + are the algorithms used to calculate the Carbon footprint of every production. It started as a BBC initiative, but has now been rolled out to most production companies. I'm not sure why they don't publicise it differently though. It may be that it's not really aimed at viewers, just other industry types.

Hmm, as I suspected then, just a bit of cronyism and internal back-slapping as it's being currently presented.

If they actually mean it and want to inform the great unwashed then why don't they bother to say so then?

Maybe they aren't overly interested in publicising it? The initiative itself is very good. Publicising it would bring criticisms from other quarters. I suppose they can't win really. :D

Probably right. However during the One Show earlier last week they mentioned that they had been awarded it. However they were very flippant about it too and made the "Albert" reference a big joke.

If this is an industry-only accolade then keep it there, but if they want to tell us all how important it is, as they seem to want to do, then for heaven's sake make the effort to inform us what exactly it is that they're banging on about.

how can a tv program be carbon neutral? Surely it takes power to make, plus all the materials for the set/costumes? Then all the camera's and lighting used during filming
Please tell me how that is neutral? I must be missing something here.

Green energy, carbon offsetting programs....
