Bagged a hole in 1 on our par 4 13th today!!

Was not playing particularly well (+8 after 12) but 4 of our last 6 holes are short par 4's so was hoping to birdy a couple to claw some shots back.

On to the 13th, 281 yards off medal tee I hit a nice drive that felt sweet and as it rolled up the green I thought 'that's gonna be close, go on!' and then the ball disappeared! I walked up thinking it must have rolled out the back but when I got to the hole I must confess to screaming for joy!!

That has to be the best feeling I've had in golf! I wish I could have shared it with some of the guys I play with but they were all working!!

I must admit to not going in the clubhouse but wish I had now as I think it would have been a cheap round at 1045 this morning!

Re: length of par 3/4's what more can you do than play to what the club specify and mark you card accordingly. On the card it says par 4, the prevailing wind is usually into you on the hole which means more often than not it's 2 shots to the green.

I was playing on my own - I do quite a bit as I go out early and get back asap to have some family time. Am working tonight 5pm til 8am, and try to play before my night shift as I feel a bit more with it although my son woke me at 3am until about 5 so was a bit groggy this morning too!

Virtual beers allround is fine with me!

Not having a pop about the distance. As you say, you can only go by the card, and you clearly played it well. Just a general comment regarding the difference between par 3s and 4s. Some short par 4s have ponds or dog legs to make you lay up. Some par 3s are monster. I think it is congressional in the states that has a huge par 3. Tiger just made it with a 3 wood, because 'it is against his religion to hit a driver on a par 3'.

Yeah, virtual ones.

Is 281 yards technically a par 4? There are par 3s longer than this.

There shouldn't be par 3s over 250 according to my old books on golf. If that has changed, I don't know.

I think it's a great achievement in any-one's book....wow....what a result! Well done.

Well done :D, I bet that made your day and nothing could bring you down from that feeling every golfer wants that only a hole in one can create.
Well done again, shame you were on your own and had no one to share the actual moment with, well, you've got us now :) and mines a shandy (pint of). CHEERS ;)

It's not Congressional with the monster par 3, it's Oakmont. The 8th hole there played up to 288 yards in last year's US Open. Ouch!

Enjoy the moment! Nothing can take it away.
I've had two hole-in-ones and never had to stand the bar bill, but would be happy to have another an pay up!
