Hi team...so as title says, Ryanair have lost my golf clubs. Fortunately this was after my golf week, but even so, I feel physically sick about the prospect of losing my clubs and all the other equipment that goes with it...net alone the enormous cost of all the bits added together. Got to be North of £3k

Just trying to share my my recent experience and hoping someone out there has had a similar experience and what to do/how to claim if it all goes wrong...

Thanks,

M

That sounds awful! Shocking that they can go missing. Is there no sort of insurance that you were covered by? Hope you get something sorted fella!

how can they lose a a set of golf clubs? theres not a set of keys.!!!!!

gutted for you. got insurance buddy?

yeah and I had my son's 14th birthday presents in there as well as all the golf equipment I own as well as loads of new balls etc etc...........can't do much about it tonight, but just looking at Ryanair website and googling it it seems best case I might get £1k back.......so I would be £2k down...........doesn't seem right somehow, will have to check household insurance tomorrow but feeling pretty low after a brilliant week down at Saunton Sands Golfclub

How come only 1K? Is there no insurance cover for the total cost?

Assume that £1k is the most that Ryanair will pay out for a lost piece of luggage. The rest would have to go through your insurance.

I'm off to Portugal with easyJet on Thursday and taking the clubs. Having seen what happens to luggage behind the scenes it
makes me feel better that I have insurance for them.

There should be an element of cover under your household policy for losses away from home. There will be a maximum limit but you should be able to claim on that and against easyJet.

Whilst I can understand how you feel part of me can't understand how you can have over £3k of gear and fly without insurance to cover the total cost if this is the case

Tbf insurance does cost a whopping £30........

I feel for the op. But agree it's naive not to have it.

Ive got mine because I'm due my hole in one anytime soon!

Confirmed total loss?

Do you have travel insurance at all?

Is there no hope your bag will turn up? We lost a suitcase recently returning from Paris and it arrived fine the following day. Are baggage departments looking out for it?

How is it 3k? PXG?

The thing about insurance is most often it isn't new for old unless you've paid extra and often that's only the first 3 years. I think can get proper new for old but again that's extra still. Insurance can be misleading.

As you aren't insured airlines often have a get out clause. But the clubs will most likely turn up somewhere and you will get them within days.

I've often thought at airports though whilst waiting for my clubs, how easy it would be to just pick up a set of clubs or bag and just walk out the airport

Baggage is normally paid out by airlines at 16 quid a kilo. This was set as a standard in around 1948. It makes no difference what it is, that is the rate. It has never been updated.

You really do need to insure your luggage seperately. You could check your travel insurance.

What are you complaining about?

Twice my clubs have gone missing, both times when I had to make connecting flights through Gatwick. If the flight times between arrival and departure are close, luggage often doesn't make the transfer especially oversize luggage such as golf clubs. Both times my clubs were delivered by taxi the following day as they were put on the next available flight.

Hope yours turn up.
