i played with a pal yesterday who's off 14. on the 2nd hole he performed one almighty air shot with his driver. the funny part was the look on his face followed by me dropping to my knees gasping for air and crying with laughter!

can you remember your last air shot and what handicap was you? trying to pull off special/ tricky shots dont count!

I whiffed one from long rough when the club went straight underneath the ball. My mate was having a mare at Sunningdale Ladies which is a short tight course. He was getting more and more frustrated and on one long par 3 wound up and swung so hard he literally swung off his feet. I think he might have hit it but can't remember as I was in too much pain laughing at the site of him on his backside.

Friday. Tried to punch out from trees. The real easy option was sideways but team comp and playing partner had lost his ball so I decided to try a route that would take me closer to the hole. Shouldn't have been too difficult but caught a branch on the way back to the ball and completely missed the ball. Got frustrated and then made a pigs ear out of the hole. Was hitting my 6th on a par 5 from 210 yards! All this after I had just birdied the 17th!!! Whoops.

Not so frequent now but once, in a comp, on the first tee, white, which is set back at the side of the clubhouse, and with two three balls waiting to follow, I managed to dribble my drive into the clubhouse wall, watched it bounce twice on the paved area and land about twenty feet ahead.
I was fairly new to the game and felt an idiot. I was so "distressed" I followed with an air shot, then a topped hit of about twenty foot and then another air shot. My partner had to come over and calm me down.
Every few games or so I'm capable of a meltdown and an air shot will inevitably follow.
The strangest one I saw, and I've only ever seen it once, was an air shot putt.
The chap had to knock it the length of the green and just went over the top of it.

Can't remember when I last had an air-shot, though I know I've had a couple of unforced ones - the 'forced' ones from in trees don'r really count as air shots to me.

Have gone directly under a ball in rough without hitting it once or twice. At Gullane 3 one time I as in the 3 foot rough beside 13th green and did it. Saw the ball simply drop about 3 inches further into the junk - proved I kept my eye on it! Next shot hit the pin and would have been a remarkable Par - having never been within 20 or more yards of the fairway!

Never will forget playing with a slight hangover at Goswick in the old England V Scotland GM match. Not sure if it counts as an air shot when I managed to bury the head of my 5 wood into the ground a good 4 inches behind the ball

Have had a few with the driver in the past, thankfully not had any for a while, but was playing with my mate a few weeks ago, when he took an air shot in the bunker, missed ball and sand by a good 2 inches, in a fit of anger he took the mother of all swings and missed the lot again.

Took me a few minutes to stop laughing enough to carry on, then went on to 3 putt from under 6 feet

A couple of years ago when trying to hit a little gripped down hybrid on a long(ish) par 3. Must have gripped down a bit too far.:D
Managed to put the 2nd attempt on the green and then knocked it in for a par as well... Didn't make me feel any better about it though.....

9 months since my last one.
We were playing in a foursomes match and my partner had knocked it very short into the rough in front of the tee. We were 2 down with 5 to play and they were in the middle of the fairway with 150 yards to the green so I lined up for a mighty swing with a 3 wood to get it close. Missed the ball, spun round and ended up crying with laughter for a good 5 minutes before we could continue the match. Partner then knocks it to about 160 out and I nail it onto the green about 10 foot from the hole. Opponents fat the first one then knock it through into a bunker, took 2 to get out and we ended up winning the hole.
Lost to them on the 18th but the highlight was definitely the air shot!

Not strictly an air-shot but I remember a time at Greenburn GC, can't remember the hole number, as when I last played there it was very wet and I think some holes were rerouted to make up a temporary course.

Anyway, off an elevated tee into a par-3, and with the preceding hole's green visible in my peripheral vision, I took a whiffer with a 5-iron. Mid-way through my downswing and out of the corner of my eye I noticed someone playing into the preceding green emerge from a greenside bunker. It was enough to make me completely lose any cohesion I had in my swing, and I kind of threw the club head at the ball, all but whiffing the ball and toppling it off the tee about 18".. think the rush of air from the clubhead did most of the ball's propulsion.

I didn't know whether to feel annoyed or amused, but I burst out laughing while unfairly throwing dagger glances to the person below. Quickly composed myself and proceeded to knock the next shot to 12-feet.

First tee at Toraquebrada in Benalmedena 8.30 in the morning , me first up swoosh ball still there que the other 23 lads pissing there selfs laughing. In my defence i smashed the next swing miles down there and i didn't get in till 5 so had about 2 hours kip.

Two of late, one where I was already playing with an injury, took a bash at a 3 wood off the deck, missed and strained my leg.

The other was out of trying to do a funny backswing under trees, had the ball in the total wrong part of my stance without realising it and missed it by inches!
