Ive seen a lot of talk about aimpoint and 1 of my regular PPs swears by it and it has helped his putting but he is in the camp of "Im not going to tell you how because its someones livelihood" when quizzed on what its all about.

Have any forumers got to grips with it or been on the course and how effective is it?

Delete the post now. Not worth the hassle.

those that use it (myself included) swear by it, most that don't, can do nothing but slag it off. Become VERY BORING, very quickly on here!

As I understand it it’s a cross between voodoo and telekinesis :D

More seriously, if you search the forum for Aimpoint there’s some good threads with lots of opinion on both sides

Aimpoint splits opinions on here - some use it and swear by it and it seems to have improved some going bt HC but seems to have made no difference to others

People have also shown concerns on pace of play - I have played with two people using it , one it didn't seem to make much difference the other was awful and horrifically slow on the green

It also appears to rely on some knowns like pace of green etc which isn't mainly known at courses

But as with any method it won't turn anyone into a good Putter

Anyone I have seen use it the reading of the greens doesn't seem to be any better and maybe it's a placebo

You'll even find some video's on YouTube about it.
Some presented by good golfers.....

I played a scratch team match yesterday, in the afternoon I played a guy off scratch who uses Aimpoint. He was 2 up with 2 to play and missed a 2 1/2 footer on the 17th for the match and 6ft on the 18th for the match, game ended all square as I won the last 2 holes

Since using Aimpoint I've gone from an 18 handicap to 12. Not saying that was the only reason I've come down from 18, but it's helped. I couldn't read greens to save my life, using my legs / feet rather than eyes has massively helped.

Each to their own. As it's been said, a lot of people here passionately dislike it, seemingly because they think it takes too much time. I think I'm pretty quick with it, never been told I'm too slow.

This.
All I'll say is I've been doing it for the past 5 years and I won't go back to the 'normal' way.

Most people I see aren't good enough to hole putts on completely flat greens.

Using aimpoint only works if you can putt well already

This is true. I missed three straight putts on Saturday. I knew they were straight, I thought I had aimed straight, they were straight, I missed right edge :(.

Having a good stroke is stage 1. If you have that then give it a whirl, it may work for you and if it does it doesn't matter what others say or think.

It just takes up time on the greens and adds to slow play plus i have yet to see someone hole 5 or 6 single puts while using It, to me it a load of Tosh and someone out there is making money from it.

You've already read by now both sides of the story. Either its great or total rubbish

I did the course about a year ago and not only did it improve my green reading which was poor, tips I was given regarding my putting action have helped me too. I see pro golfers on tv missing very short putts so to expect someone who's done Aimpoint to make every putt is nonsense, and, if you're a good green reader you really don't need it anyway. Adam Scott and Tommy Fleetwood use it, as do other top pro's - most don't, so I suggest you make your own mind up, but in my case I've wasted money on golf things that have not done what they are supposed to as in clubs, balls etc etc but I don't consider the money I paid for Aimpoint a waste

No idea if it works or not but I hate playing with someone who's using it. Very time consuming and distracting. That said, if I believed it would save a shot or two a round I'd probably give it a go too!

As opposed to what? Someone who looks at both sides of the hole and stalks it 360?

I use Drivepoint* which is very quick but to be fair, the guy I played yesterday who used Aimpoint was reasonably quick on the greens.

*patent pending
