I didn't really want to make a new thread about this, as we've had quite a lot on launch monitors previously. But I was looking over a few old threads and saw a few posts that recommended a Driver of ~11deg should have an ideal launch angle of about 15deg

Basically I was hitting a few rescues last night as I can't hit my current one for love nor money and I was getting about a 15deg launch angle with a 21deg rescue, now if I'm wanting a 15deg launch angle with a driver, then surely I want a lot higher from my rescue club?!

The guy at AG said it was fine, but I'm just a little wary really. Also, does anybody else find it a little unnerving to buy a club without looking at the actual ball flight with your own eyes? I mean, I know these machines are top of the line etc, but to see the ball on the monitor just didn't feel the same.

Unfortunately, I can't really remember any other stats - the launch one just seemed weird.

Yeah I play there as it's a 5 minute walk. The course is actually changing hands at the moment, so there is a big overhaul at the moment. I think they have one temporary green at the moment and that's the 8th hole.

It's quite a hilly course and the first drive is quite daunting as there is a huge tree obstructing a lot of the fairway. The fairways generally aren't very wide, but if you're a straight hitter you shouldn't have too many problems.

The 9th hole is a cool par 3. ~150yrds but very uphill. I play it as a 170yrd hole tbh.

Good luck, let me know how you get on.

I can't help you with the launch angle query but I did post a thread on here a few weeks ago about a bad experience at AG. They're launch monitor was unbelievably inaccurate but that may of just been the one store. I also found the staff to be poorly trained and have little idea of what was flowing out of they're hard selling mouths.

I really can't imagine, after that session, buying a club at high street prices without seeing its flight with my own eyes.

However if its a mental sale, like the nike drivers at online golf at the moment I might forego the testing part!

I have posted many many times on here about the dangers of using AG and their monitors. Their staff aren't trained enough to make fully informed decisions on the figures given and generally will use the information to try and coax you into a Yonex, Wilson or Nicklaus which have their highest mark ups. At the end of the day the AG launch monitor is nothing more than a sales gimmick to persuade you to try a few sticks and for the sales guys to have something to base their pitch around.

I will never buy a club either via my pro or from AG or any other store unless I can hit it outside on a practice ground or range and see for myself how the ball reacts in terms of flight, direction and distance.

I've been on one of these a lot recently as I'm looking for a new driver. I've been on 1 at AG and 1 at a local independant store. The advise I got for the small shop was much more benifitial(?) than the advise from AG. However, even with todays technology, I don't see how a computer can tell me where a ball will finish after just 10' of flight. I was thinking thsi very question yesterday so i'm glad someone else isn't sure. I can't remember which store told me this but they tried to tell me that Ernie Else had the very model I was using in his home, and that it's 100% accurate.
I know that when I fade/slice the ball, the 1st 10' of flight are only a little to the right and then it shoots off like it's come out of a cannon and it's gone so far right, some kids are playing with it at the school in the next county. Yet on the monitors i'm only just on the right of the fairway.

These can't be accurate.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of anywhere near me with good launch monitor information. I have a nevada bobs and an AG close to me, neither of which have a launch monitor. I only got on one yesterday because I'm in Chigwell.

Thanks for the advice. Fancy a game at Mill Green in a couple of weeks?
