Well, that was better than expected...

Got there v early and met the gm guys. Also introduced to the pro at ag trafford ( i'm terrible with names so forgive me ).

As i was there early we could just get cracking. Walking through to the fitting bays wondering what nicklaus drivers would be like, only to be greeted with......

- callaway diablo octane

- titleist 910 d3

- taylormade r11

A happy, and surprised, camper to say the least!!

After a few 6 irons to warm up the pro talked me through the flightscope data. Never been on anything like that and pretty impressive kit to be honest, a lot to take in aswell.

Anywy, on to the drivers.

First up was the callaway in reg shaft. Spraying it all over the show and a mile in the air. At this point the pro said he knew what i'd end up with.

Next up was the 910 d3, 9.5 stiff shaft. What. A. Club. Incredibly powerful to hit, only 1 of my hits with the diablo wqs longer than my shortest with this beauty. Shortest was 245 total, i don't have the cojones for the 300+ club here :-). Loved everything about this, even in tye neutral setting. Would be hard to beat as dispersion was less than 20 yards aswell as being long.

The r11 next and, well, i hated it. Felt heavy, the white wasn't so much of an issue but couldnt get on with it. Much highet smash factor than either of the other 2 but bang in the middle for dispersion and distance. Shame really as i wanted to like it but not to be.

So, i am the proud owner of a titleist 910 d3 and on way home with a big grin on my face!

The range at trafford is pretty good too , loads of bays, loads of equipment and the pro was very very good at taking me through the data, albeit surprised thst my longest club was also the most accurate!

Downside was that i only got to meet one of the other guys briefly, hope the other 3 enjoyed it as much as i did.

In summary, great experience being on the flightscope, i will definitely get fitted for any future clubs, great to hit different drivers and end up with a shiny new toy for free!

Sounds like you had a cracking time mate, keep us updated on how you get on with the new driver.

Cheers

Midnight...

So does this mean that the next person will get a choice between the Diablo & R11, the third person will get the other, then the poor sod who turns up last gets the Nicklaus?

Good to hear to you a good time fella, the 910 is getting a lot of good reviews a very nice looking club, what shaft ,settings did you end up with.

I loved the R11 ,but im going to give the 910 a bash tomorrow as im still waiting on my R11 coming :)

It was 9.5*, diamana stiff shaft 65. Neutral setting worked best, although the danger with these adjustable clubs is i'll no doubt tinker with it at the range!!

Didnt get on with the r11 which i was quite disappointed with tbh as it does look the mutts nuts. Although the 910 is nice to look at also.

Hopefully not! Think they were pulling out another one to try, may have been the cobra but not too sure.

So within the space of a few days, you see a thread on here from Mike, and a few days later you walk out of AG with a £300 Titleist driver.

Lucky begger. Hope you get on with it.

You'd better buy a lottery ticket this week.

Yep, thats pretty much the long and short of it. Chuffed to bits i must admit, like i say i expected a nicklaus/yonex/wilson fest.

Steve, I have just mailed Ryan at TM for an update as I'd have thought you three would have had the clubs by now

You been sniffing that glue again? :D

Did you try the clubs with different shafts and settings, or was it just finding the best of the 3 set up how they already were?

Jammy gits, I would have put my name down & popped across (if selected of course), unfortunately was in & out of meetings all day.

Were the fitters fairly knowledgable as I might go there next driver upgrade?

It never got that far.....

The pro at the start said id hit them all to get a baseline then come back to the best 2 and tweak them to find the optimum set up.

However, it wasnt even close between any 2 and i was hitting long and straight with the titleist so didnt go any further with it.

Maybe one of the othr guys had a closer run thing and may be able to expsnd a bit more....

As ive not done the whole custom fitting thing before i may not be in the best position to answer this, especially as it was such a no brainer withe driver choice.

The pro was good and fitting is free there so woud recommend it on that basis.
