Morning all,
Is it really worth changing the grip on my new driver?

Was at the range with a mate last night. He asked to try my driver
After passing it to him, the first thing he said was ( I'd change the grip)

The driver is a tm rbz and the grip is Standard (but brand new)

Is it really worth changing?
Is it going to make a differance to my game?

It all depends on what you want from a grip. TM used to have fairly awful grips fitted as standard, ones that just were impossible to hold onto on a warm or wet day. When I had my R7 I changed to a Multicompound grip straight away.

I have a bag full of TM and am far from impressed with there grips I have changed my driver fairway and hybrid to multicompounds irons under serious consideration and more than likely.

I'd agree with this, my 09 burners had crap grips that we're genuine, the new cb's have tour golf prides which are alot better. Not a fan of the neo gel grip on the amp either.

Grips are a personal thing

contemplating changing all my grips for lamkin crossline, absolutely loved them in my old irons, shame they are hard to find in red (hit and miss on Gamola)

my cb grips seems better compared to my r11's woods. and but my old burners where awful grips but they will all be getting changed soon enough for multi compounds.

Only TM club I've got is the superfast 2 #3 hybrid and although I think its a great club, the grip is pants.
Keep meaning to change it for Lamkin Crossline tour but never got round to it.

First thing I do to my TM clubs is not use the standard grips. My irons came custom fit with multi-compound on and when I purchased my R11s a few weeks ago I told the pro to go out back and put me a decent grip on it. Fortunately he had a white grip to match the clubhead which was good, he even did not charge me for it. Never heard of this make before but it is EGIGO Revolution, used it today in the driving rain and still got plenty of grip from it, very impressed with it.

I got my irons regripped with the red egigo revolution grips after our pro recommended them as an alternative to the usual and i can honestly say my iron play has never been better!! Resulting in 3 shot cut already in 3 weeks!

The new GP multicompound whiteout is a cracking grip, a great feel to it, I had a good with thecraw 's 3w last week with said grip and liked the feel of it right away, I'll likely redo my woods and wedges with them, changing irons at the end of the season so won't do them.

Wouldn't changing the grips upset the balance of the club?
TM, especially, fit lightweight grips to balance the club. Too much weight, even a few grammes, might upset the balance and lead to problems.
Could be talking out of my #### but something in the back of my mind came up with this..

Realistically a change in grip really is just grams and given that the head is the heavier end it would take an almighty weight change at the grip end to have any significant effect on balance. That is basic physics for you.

Should add, not that you'd notice anyway but taking your glove off to swing the driver would have more effect on balance than a grip change it's that small.

Chatting with the ping tour guys at Walton, they reckon grip weight is vital, and every gramme counts.

You can't possible tell me every gram is vital. If it was a massive change yes but a 10 gram change at the grip is likely to have something like a 1 or 2 gram at worst change at the head, nothing for the amateur to worry about.

Westwood stuffed his driver by changing the grip himself. They weigh his, and sort them specifically for him.

Could an amateur tell? Who knows? Depends how fussy you are.

Just to give an idea of what the balance change is, get your driver and balance it on your finger untill is sits perfect level then stick 10g of weight on the grip, it will hardly move. 10 gram is about the weight of an a4 sheet of paper. Honestly, the club golfer would never notice.
