My playing partner and I are making a season end visit to Royal Liverpool in November. We are travelling down on a Sunday and looking for a course to play that afternoon before we play Hoylake on the Monday.
Links course is the preference, and being Nov we will hopefully capitalise on winter fees and grab a bargain (more beer money)
Looking to stay at No15 Stanley Rd on the Sun night ( overlooks Hoylake course) anyone stayed there?

All advice welcome

Many thanks

Wallasey is well worth a visit

If you're coming into Liverpool from the North take your pick of the southport Lot, Hillside, S&A, Formby etc etc

Formby do a fourball price of £220, or £70 a single from November-March through. Normally £130 iirc in the summer.

If you put it in the arrange a game section, 2 others may help you fill the other spaces to get you the £55 each deal, and it includes soup and sarnies.

16 of us are playing there tomorrow, check out the arrange a game for reviews tomorrow night.

I've done it the last 3 years as Formby in March and for £55 is a steal.

Prices may be higher but Hillside, Wallasey, West lancs, SandA and to a slightly lesser extent Caldy, are the others worth doing.

Formby is the best VFM though on the fourball deal, and is an open qualifier course. Not as good as Hillside, though.;)

Wallasey would definitely be my choice!

Though I disagree about it being better than Hoylake. Not all that far off and far better value for money though!

Definitely Wallasey, has some great holes but not a better all round course than Hoylake in my opinion. Caldy and Heswall are decent value options, but not links (Caldy has some links style holes, Heswall parkland)
