Howdy,

New shiney syndrome, induced/endorsed by a professional - so I got a golden ticket. Thanks Bob :)

Will have to see how finances look in the New Year, obvs I'd love to go for a custom fitting and get lovely new shineys, but if that doesn't materialise I wondered what a cheaper alternative might be?

I'm not looking for blades, just moving from G15 to the i range. So what are folks experience of this?! Is there much difference between the i20 and 25 for example? And should I be considering something else entirely? The appeal of the i range is I was custom fit for G15s, reg shaft blue dot. It would be reasonably easy to recreate in i this without the need for fitting etc. I got on very well with the G15s and though they come in for a bit of stick on here they got me from someone with no h/c to single figures (status just lost - but not for long). It's just they don't suit the type of trajectory I'm now achieving, so will be reluctantly leaving the bag at some point. Sad face.

Cheers y'all.

Slightly worrying that you've gone from a beginner with no h'cap to single figures and you don't think another fitting is needed? While your static length spec will be the same, your lie and shaft needs could have changed quite dramatically, hence the weak trajectory you're now experiencing.

In terms of the differences between the i irons, it will be noticeable, as each model is usually a few yards longer and more forgiving. So which you go for will most likely come down to the price vs performance trade off. Unlike lots of brands' clubs, Ping gear tends to hold its price quite well, so you get more for your investment.

I moved from the G20s to I20s earlier this year and love them. I'd say they played some part in dropping from 8 to 5 handicap. Took a while to get used to the look at address as they looked so small BUT once I got used to them that soon disappeared and now they look a little clunky like the G's used to! Better, more penetrating flight for sure and just slightly less forgiving of a mis-hit. I'm not a big one for working the ball BUT do find it easier to hit a low hooky one if I'm in the trees from time to time.

Being a bit OCD about clean clubs they are so much easier to keep clean without the huge cavity backs too!

Oh - I was custom fit for the G's and bought the I's 2nd hand off Ebay. Had my pro do a quick lie check to be sure nothing was amiss and would have gone to Gainsborough for a change/lie/loft check if necessary.

PS - You're right that Bob is a good guy

Thanks both -

Jake if money were no object there is no question I'd be getting fit. Money, unfortunately, might well be an object in 2016.

Amanda - Gainsborough isn't far from where I live, good idea to get them checked (though I'd imagine you'd have wanted to hit the G15s with a wrecking ball to mess the lofts! So the is are probably similarly well-built).

Sound!

Not much difference between the i20 and the i25. They are noticeably smaller than the G series, but that shouldn't be a problem for a competent golfer. I used to play with i15's before I bought my present set of Taylor Mades, dazzled by the supposed new technology. I am thinking of going back to the Pings, which I still have, because although they are a bit shorter, I get a more consistent length with them.

I have just sold my i20's to make way for my new 'i' irons. They are the same club. Maybe slightly higher ball fligh but very marginal

I bought a fitted set of i25's last year after years of playing Callaway irons, I have now got used to the pings and really like them, I seem to remember a thread concerning build quality, mine are now 12 months old and I don't have any build quality problems so hopefully it was a small localised problem.

As a ping iron convert I would say buy them and enjoy. If funds are tight I don't think the i20's are too different but should be a bit cheaper.

Merry Christmas

Just picked up a set of i25s last week after using G30s for a while , the i25s are a much better club to look down on , i tried both today at the range and i25s have lower ball flight which suits my game, the G30 are still a great club tho.

If you are stepping away from the G15's and own the 3 wood give me a shout! Good luck with whatever you decide to go for

Soz, dont have one, and you'll prize the driver from my cold dead hands ;)

Cheers all good stuff, I assumed someone would have been on by now to advise me away from the Pings altogether but it all sounds quite positive for the i20/25s...
