Hi all,

My OH is asking what I want for xmas, was thinking of some kind of gps device to save me having to use my phone, ideally want a watch like the s20 or the x40, that can be used day to day. Are there any advantages between a watch type and the larger g6 type ones? I only really need it to give a rough yardage to the green.

Second question, I am looking at getting some new irons, currently have some adams CB3 irons, just done my handicap and got 28 (although the pro at the club is going to question this as my scores were a rubbish 107 but then 2 in the low 90s) but he says after I should be looking at single figures in a few years (not sure about that but...) can anyone recommend anything I should be looking at? Or should i stick with what I have for another year?

Many thanks

I prefer the hand held GPS version as I can get information on distances to hazards etc. Just a personal preference. As for new clubs, ask your pro for advice and try as many models as you can

your clubs look decent enough to keep you going for a while yet. If the cash burns a hole, why not play a nice course as a reward for getting down to (for example) 18 ?

Recently got a S2 for my birthday. If you just want a yardage to front, middle and back of the green its great and I've found it very helpful.

Thanks, yeh exact yardagws to the flag are a bit pointless for me, I just aim for the middle of the green and just an idea on the yardage is fine.

I'll speak with my pro after a lesson on Tuesday, but yeh I think my current clubs will probably be fine for a while yet.

Thanks

IMO handheld GPS trumps the watches for the sole reason that you get yardages to bunkers, streams etc.

I golf shot on my phone and watch does the job pretty well. Phone gives distances to hazards etc where as Watch works with the phone and gives you front middle and back of green whilst also being updated to have more input for each holes score with number of putts, pens, sand shots and club used to tee off

excellent combo

I just use my Garmin handheld gives all the details I could possibly need

Not sure I'd have the time or patience to record each shot manually

doesnt record each shot (my game golf does but that literally is just a tap before each shot don't even notice it now)

it records the score on the hole and u just out for example 4, 2 putts, 1 wood and select where it landed

takes seconds

Yeah I use game golf

Sorry I thought you meant you use your GPS to record each shot manually

If distances to green is the only requirement then any golf watch will suffice. I suspect you will grow out of that if you start to improve, especially if you play courses other than your home one. I would get a watch or handheld device that includes distances to hazards/doglegs. I think its invaluable information on away courses, even if you don't envisage using that information now.

Good point, looks like the s20 had distances to hazards etc, can't figure out if it had the ability to track your shots too? Does anyone know any device that does this as well Distances?

Thanks

I would certainly be questioning the 28 handicap. Depending on your course SSS, a couple of rounds in the low 90s should produce a much lower initial handicap.

Not sure what sss is 🙄 funny enough just after I posted this thread I had a message from the handicap secretary saying my handicap had been adjusted to 20 after a discussion with the club professional. Was hoping to play a few tournaments before it got adjusted 😅

Looking forward to getting it down now :)
