Purchased a club this week from a pro shop. The club was originally advertised on eBay as "mint new last week"

As I have used the shop before I phoned up and paid with my debit card

Club arrived this week but due to working away I only got to see it today and it turns out there is 2 small scratches in the paintwork at the back of the clubhead

I realise I was buying used but when something is described as mint condition i would hope that meant there would be no paintwork damage on the club

I have emailed them but at best I am going to have to spend £12 to return it and I think they charge another 5% admin fee for any returns

Anyone know where I stand with regards to buying second hand but the goods don't match the original description?

For me, I will always get detailed pics if buying second hand. Did you see any pics of the club as one persons mint may not be anthers, but pics rarely lie

Contact seller state your not happy. See if he will issue a part refund of the difference you think it's worth

or was it buy now? eBay distance selling goods act might help? If not raise a case with eBay I got a Fitbit that was "new" turned out to be refurb got my full money back

The club was advertised through eBay but as the shaft was a stiff flex and I was looking for a regular I phoned the shop to speak to them and made payment over the phone for the club

The photos on the eBay auction didn't mention or show in the pictures the damage at the back of the club head, it was described as 'mint'

It is going to cost me around £40 by the time I pay my own postage, they deduct there postage costs from the refund and charge the 5% admin fee for refunding so it's not worth returning

I would still speak to them see what they say

If it was advertised on ebay and you then phoned up the seller and paid directly then ebay arent going to help you unfortunately (unless you won the item on ebay and then phoned up to pay?) - You were cutting them out of the transaction so why would they help?

I think your only chance is to phone them and try to come to some sort of arrangement - maybe a partial refund or return the club with an attempt to waive the 5% admin fee as the club wasnt as advertised.

I would call them back, tell them the club is not as described, ask them if they have sent the right club. Tell them you have used the shop before and would be happy to do the same again. If not happy with the outcome, and you have to pay admin etc. Name and shame. Would not be happy if I have the same issues and post it on here and you said " yup that happens to me with that shop". Come what may get rid of the club coz you will not be happy with it..

To be honest - I'd ask yourself if it's worth the hassle - your clubs are going to get scratched and bashed, and you may have got it quite a lot cheaper than new. I appreciate your 'psstoffosity' as it was supposed to be 'mint'. Back in the day if it was a persimmon wood you had purchased I would be with you getting onto the seller 100%.

Trade it in at ag for a brand new one?

In these days of social media, retailers have to manage their brand. If you go about it nicely you must have a chance.

All clubs become 2nd hand eventually though, so I wouldn't spend any of my own money sending it back. You'll score just the same with it.

I paid £239, I can get £200 trade it at AG with the double valuation promotion running at the moment.

I have emailed with no response so will give them until tomorrow then decide what to do from there

Surley the scratches you describe are purely cosmetic and could be from the club being on display.

i would just use it, that's what its for after all... unless you want to put it in a glass case or something?

as you called them to pay I would call them to complain because emails can be ignored or fobbed off

I would definitely be having a verbal conversation rather than using email. I assume the "buyer beware" caveat of buying unseen covers the retailer in this case especially if ebay were bypassed. Worse case scenario if you get no joy and don't want the club the AG route seems the best bet and take a marginal hit but picking up something you are happy to use

If its only cosmetic work then surely you can touch it up yourself?

I helped a mate out who bought a battered Callaway fairway wood and driver off eBay and he was a bit disappointed with them when they arrived. Low and behold a bit of black enamel gloss on the crown and a fair bit of Autosol chrome polish and they looked almost brand new. He was chuffed to bits with them!
