hi,

Im just coming back from breaking my arm pretty badly and wondering about wrist supports / braces.

I broke my left arm just below the wrist, it was a complete break of the distal radius. Due to the location of the break Im very concerned about golfing again as its where all the force seems to go through when I swing.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend and braces or supports I could buy as Im eager to get playing again but don't want to do myself any damage.

Thanks

Not sure about the brace but I think one handed golf is the way forward for you my friend. No danger of hurting your wrist then.

You have never been very good anyway so can't imagine it will make much difference.

IMO wait until your ready.

That is good advice but my problem is knowing when im actually ready, my physio says the bone should be full strength in about 3 weeks but that I wont be ready to play again for a month or 2 after that just due to pain and stiffness. To be honest she says she doesnt know a lot about golf and to just start easing myself back into it when i feel ready. Id just like the brace for abit of extra insurance when I do start again

Practice putting and chipping, then work your way up to a full swing from there.

I broke my elbow very badly when I was ten, and even with my youthful enthusiasm and ability to recover, I couldn't make a full swing for about a year.

Unless your going to simply get an elastic bandage any other wrist brace I have seen and used has had a plate running up the inside and outside of the wrist and over the palm... You could not grip a club.

Maybe get further medical advice from a physio or doctor but I wouldn't rush any rehabilitation. Maybe start with some chips and pitches and see how it feels if you really feel the need to do something golf related. Personally I wouldn't without the go ahead from a medical person

In my experience a brace/support will not make much difference.

Thirty odd years ago I shattered my upper left arm to the extent that for several months after amputation was considered and it is still plated to this day. Could not play for 18 months.

A brace for the physical injury was not what I needed but more something for the psychological effects. It took quite a while before I was confident that it was not going to fall apart at impact.

Just give it time and have faith in your body to deal with this injury. Good luck!

I think the psychological thing could be a big problem too, just the thought of swinging a club gives me pains at the mo, thats one of the reasons Im thinking about the brace as it would give me the confidence to hit the shot. Definatly going to take it easy, time to master the art of putting
