Going for my first round on Tuesday and wondering if anyone could give me any pointers on etiquette etc? We are nice people and if people are closing in on us we would let them pass but is there any other things we need to know? raking the bunkers I know of replacing the flag.

Also I am going with a friend who only ever plays pitch and putt so has a few irons (4,7,8,9,sw and a putter) but no bag and no driver/woods. The plan was just to stick his clubs in my bag but having a quick read online this seems to be a no no from what I can see its due to slowing down play but we was just planning on taking what club he needs to his ball as I go to mine. So can't see that slowing anything down much. As I say he only plays pitch and putt so isn't going to buy a bag as he doesn't plan on playing much 18 hole golf. Should I ring the club up and let them know this is the plan? (We have booked online)

Thanks for any advice

Danny

Enjoy it mate, like you say if you are holding a group up let them through other than that you should be fine oh and replace your divots 😜

Most etiquette is actually common sense. Things like not leaving your bag at the front of the green, leave it where you will exit to walk to the next tee.
Be aware of your surroundings and other golfers and repair any pitch marks on greens as well as look after the bunkers if you visit them.
The most important thing is you enjoy it so try not to get bogged down too much and just apply common sense.

On the bag front, best to check with the club as some places will insist on one bag one set of clubs per player.

Good luck

First thing - enjoy yourself

most clubs don't normally allow people to share one bag so give them a bell and see if you can borrow one if you haven't another bag

As for etiquette the main thing is being aware of others - if your holding them up let them through , ensure you're not making too much noise when people are around , and just clean up the course after yourself - repair divots where possible , fill in divots on the tee , repair pitchmarks and rake bunkers

Be careful as many clubs won't let you share a bag and it will cause a problem at many. See if you can hire a set. Other than that, just be aware of those behind, and make sure you leave your bag close to the exit to the next tee. Above all, enjoy it and don't spend your whole time worrying about others. Just use common sense

Thanks guys I will give them a ring in the morning and ask, If not I am sure I can find a cheap bag on gumtree for a 10er or so :)

Danny

Where are you playing? They might just lend you a bag if you have clubs.

I would rent the clubs there if its a "full" length course. Tell us more about where you are playing.

Playing at Disley just outside Stockport. Didn't realise you could rent clubs. I will give them a ring tomorrow and see what they say. I have just found a full set for sale on gumtree for £25 round the corner from me so happy to pay that, as none of my friends play golf regularly but are always at the range with me and at pitch and putt might be handy in the future :)

Hope you enjoy it on Tuesday. Make sure you come back here and let us know how you got on. You might take 120 shots but I guarantee there will be one that makes you want to do it all again!

Hi Danny!

Want to wish you good luck on your first round tomorrow.

Not sure if you have had lessons or not but tonight would be a good time just to go over your equipment, make sure it is clean and in serviceable condition.

If the head pro is about tomorrow I think I would tell him you are a new player - may be ask him if he has any advice. I found when taking up the game club professionals were very keen on meeting new players and you may find him (or her) a valuable resource in the future. A good relationship to cultivate for sure.

As for the game, replace your divots, repair pitch marks and generally just try to move around the course in a purposeful manner. One rule my pro had (I had lessons before I ventured onto the course) was if you were going to take more than seven just pick up and move on to the next hole. Even ignoring the obvious reason of it slowing up play, you are out there for fun and especially as a new player a new and different challenge is an obvious quick reset button for the mind and so much of golf is a mental game.

Above all enjoy it!
