My previous course was a good one and it was easy to locate stray balls. The new one is a tad more difficult with water and rough around. Have been losing a couple of balls every round. Rather than use my stock of good balls, I am thinking of getting some lake balls. The ProV1s will stay for match days.

What is the forum view of the best place to buy lake/refurbished balls

I bought some from premier lake balls. Looked really good when they arrived but I doubt I will buy again as they seem to scuff up really quickly. I don't know if they necessarily did or not though.

My advice - don't buy them - you can get better ball for better price

Only worth it if you suddenly need a lot of practice balls. After all, they have managed to get lost once before ;)

Prem... is fine as are Lakeballs.co.uk

After years of finding far more balls than I lose, my access to pickups is now much less. I actually bought some 'fresh' from the 1st of The Shire (probably several were mine!) but for my choice of ball (NXT Tour Yellow) I use http://www.greenplanetgolfballs.co.uk. As good as anywhere else and not far to simply go and collect them!

Where's the new Club?

I buy lake balls all the time, less stressful when you lose one. My advice is go for the main brands still and get Pearl grade or a mix of A and Pearl. A- can be a bit iffy and B are an absolute no no. Also leave refurbished well alone

I am working through a mix of Callaway A/Pearl at around 45p a pop and they have been great.

Moved from Hoebridge to Merrist Wood - it is where Dufferman plays. Very different course and so far enjoying it... except that I keep running out of balls and my HC is going up every time I go out..

I didn't notice any real performance issues with mine rather that they just scuffed up more than I would like and look a bit tatty. Is there an issue with lake balls?

Actual lake balls can be a risk as there is no knowing how long they have been submerged. But you can buy "found" balls, ones that have supposedly not been dunked!
A couple of weeks underwater will probably have little effect, a couple of months probably a bit more.
To all those who shy away from lake/found balls I ask this...
If you find a seemingly new ProV1 in the rough, are you going to use it? If so how do you know its not a lake ball that has been submerged for months before being cleaned..?
I'm not convinced that most lake balls differ significantly from new ones once the new ones have been hit a few times.......
Refuge, though, are a different kettle of fish!

And the concept that balls degrade noticeably when submerged for even quite long periods is a myth too!

Avoid refurbs, buy the best grade of the same standard ball you use. No point having a bag of 4 piece lake balls if you play 2 piece new for comps.

I will buy lake balls again for bounce games and keep a stock of equivalents for competition.

Ive shot good scores round my par 3 with lake balls, tried vs a new of the same and felt no difference.

If there is a difference it will be in the long game.
