I've just been re reading Sam Snead's "The Education of a Golfer" Very funny & cheap on Amazon Kindle by the way. He tells how, early in his career, he was plagued by a terrific hook and how, having never had a lesson, he worked out for himself that if he weakened his grip he hit it straight.

I've been hooking it a bit off the tee so I thought I'd give it a try, I moved my hands just a fraction anti clockwise. The difference was stunning, every drive went straight or with a nice soft draw. Most of my bad iron shots are pulls so I thought I'd try it with the irons. Result, a six iron to 8 feet that pitched within 2 feet of the flag, a four iron into the heart of the par 3 green and an eight iron on the last which pitched & finished 2 inches from the hole.

I'm also working on a putting tip Walter Travis gave Bobby Jones in the 1920s, to take it back with the left hand and back through with the right. Seems to work quite well, I'm going to give it an extended try.

Nothing new under the sun!
