for example the new titleist 910.

i know that you cant alter the clubhead during the course of a round, but are you allowed to tighten up a loose bolt without moving the head position.

mines came lose today and was wondering what the course of action would be during a medal or competition.

It shouldnt come loose so long as you tighten it with the click on the torque driver

I'm not too sure that you could change the playing characteristics of the club in a competition as, if for example you bend the shaft of one of your irons, your can't use it. If the head is loose because of the bolt I would think that you cant tighten it after the round has started

Rule 4.3

4-3 - Damaged Clubs: Repair and Replacement
a. Damage in Normal Course of Play
If, during a stipulated round, a player’s club is damaged in the normal course of play, he may:
(i) use the club in its damaged state for the remainder of the stipulated round; or
(ii) without unduly delaying play, repair it or have it repaired; or
(iii) as an additional option available only if the club is unfit for play, replace the damaged club with any club. The replacement of a club must not unduly delay play and must not be made by borrowing any club selected for play by any other person playing on the course.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE 4-3a
See Penalty Statements for Rule 4-4a or b, and Rule 4-4c.
Note: A club is unfit for play if it is substantially damaged, e.g. the shaft is dented, significantly bent or breaks into pieces; ,the clubhead becomes loose detached or significantly deformed; or the grip becomes loose. A club is not unfit for play solely because the club’s lie or loft has been altered, or the clubhead is scratched.

As long as it hasn't come loose but smacking it on the ground after carving one into the trees then I reckon you're ok.
I'm surprised it came loose - are you sure you tightened it up properly with the wrench?

aye, im surprised too, it hasnt been touched with the wrench since i got it, mustnt have been torqued properly at the shop-hopefully it should be ok as iv torqued it now, i got to say though it didnt seem to go very tight before it torqued.

This may be a bit pedantic but if this had happened on the first tee would it still be able to be tightened. i.e. the original poster tees off and says "whoops my driver feels a bit shoogly"..
Surely tightening it up then means altering the playing characteristics of the club for the rest of the round.

Yes you're being pedantic :D

Surely if it's before you've hit a shot you can do what you want with it? If it's after you've teed off then it would come under the rule of damage during normal play mentioned above.
