With the crap weather, we have mostly been indoors and the heating almost been on all the time. Everyone starting to get dry skin. I have a humidifier somewhere in the loft, which we used when kid was born. The problem with these is that the sensors get clogged with hard water residue and are v difficult to clean.

Any tips on how people add some humidity into the air (without starting to mould the house)

jars of water on the rads. Not very controlled though. If everyone drank more water it would probably be better for them and their skin.

Do you have the heating on all the time and up high:confused:

it has been on all the time these days as the weather outside has been fairly nasty. but temp in the house is about 20-22 range - nothing too excessive.

Ooh, that'd be too hot for us:o plus we never have it on overnight. Can you perhaps try with it slightly lower and not on all the time to see if that helps.

Earn some Borwnie points with your partner and do a load of ironing using a steam iron.

Or if you're more of a traditional sort of chap, ask your partner to catch up on the ironing.

Cant turn off the heating at night as we got a kid at home and he keeps wriggling out of his duvet. Not keen on the social services paying us a visit.

I might turn down the TRVs on some of the rads. Also the little ceramic thing that hangs on the rad may be a good idea...

unless there is a medical reason I would turn it off at night- kids wriggle out there duvets all the time, they also pull it back on when sleeping.
Alternatively you could turn off all the other radiators except his if you dont want to turn it all off at night.

Don't worry they'll be around sooner when the neighbors start seeing the 'Johan Van der Smut' family punting around town...

google it, it's not what you think

We bought one of these after seeing my SIL's one in action [she has 3 Labrador dogs!!]
Quite brilliant, the air seems much fresher and when you clean out the water bowl you are amazed how much muck is floating about in the air.
No need for air fresheners either [we just have the one smelly Labrador!]

Looks very interesting.. . does this use tap water? also does limescale end up clogging it? finally is that for the whole house or do u do one in every room?

We have a large L shaped lounge but I assume it pulls the air in from all over, easy to move around.
Grandson has mild asthma so we thought it would be good [with our dog]
Use tap water, you can add special fragrance if you wish, we tend not to bother. We keep ours on for about 6 hours a day.
The water stays between two levels, when it drops I clean and refill with fresh, generally every two weeks. The nozzle gets a sort of orange gel on it but no problems with limescale. Makes a slight background noise. The coloured light are quite nice in the evenings if you want them on.
Looks like one of these 'I saw you coming' things to buy......... but it works amazingly well.

we bought 2, had them on non stop for ages, didn't notice one jot of difference unfortunately

Ambient Humidity is going to be fairly high at the moment. Last 24hrs we've been between 70-85% here in Edinburgh. Why not just allow a little more natural ventilation by opening a window for a short while every day.
