Anyone that saw his win last night would have noticed how he was reading putts with the Aimpoint technique. Anyone got a simple explanation as to how this works?!

Think will need a couple bags for this

It's a method of aiming using charts and measuring with your feet and fingers etc

Heard a few pros talking about it at a Pro Am last week

Let's keep this thread ON TOPIC. The question: how does it work.

Right- there are two Aimpoint methods:

1. Midpoint
2. Express

The first is more complicated and involves charts which I believe help you find the Midpoint of the line between your ball and the hole based on breaks in the green. Again, I believe, you have to aim to the middle of the imaginary line of your putt.

The second is a lot easier and I have taken the course (£40, group less for one hour). You stand with your feet either side of your ball facing the hole. You then have an internal gauge of how much your sloping into say, your right foot. You can call it 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 (1 being a tiny weight bias and 5 nearly falling over).

Say you have a 1 on your right leg. You then stay stood over your ball, put ONE finger up to the middle of the hole to the left hand side.

Say you have a 3 on your left leg. You then stay stood over your ball, put THREE fingers up to the middle of the hole to the right hand side.

Does it work? Yes- but it's all down to pace, pace, pace, pace, pace.

Is it worth £40? Well, if you can read greens well- no. If you can't read greens well, then at least you now have a system of measurement.

Why the controversy? Well, it's almost like a secret club where those who haven't done the course don't want to say too much about it. Why? Because they've paid their money and you haven't!

Aimpoint is based on physics and data- all that scary science stuff which flies in the face of the "putting is feel-based" tradition. But as it's based on science, they can't copyright anything other than "The Brand". That's why they don't say too much in their advertisement campaigns about the science and why you'll only see YouTube vids of people sinking putts.

Does it take ages to read a green using Aimpoint? Look at Adam Scott before and after Aimpoint.

So how does it work with a double breaker from a flat portion of the green?

I'm imagining the socks and shoes come off, proceed to lie on the ground, legs akimbo in the air, wiggling your digits either side of the hole?

Amazing the lengths some people will go to trying to make a simple game complicated!

That will be coming shortly by all accounts.

I tried this and couldn't feel anything - does it work with replaced hips??

A friend had a hip replacement and ever since has played with a gentle draw that was not there before.

must have been fitted for it on the range before hand and provided the spec to the surgeon :-)
