Does anyone suffer from chest and back pains as a result of golf?

went down the range during lunch break to hit a couple of buckets with my hybrid and I'm actually quite sore now. I wasn't trying to absolutely smash them although I think I may have on one or 2. It's all in my left chest cavity if that makes sense and between my shoulder blades but on the left side again.

Generally im pretty fit, can run a 5k in around 25 minutes and hit the weights a couple of times a week.

Not a chest or a back problem but after receiving my new driver I went to the range before my lesson and hit 200 balls then stayed on after the lesson and hit another 100, last couple swings i could feel a mild pain in my right ribs. Next day couldn't move, after 2 weeks of pain yesterday went to see a physiotherapist consultant to find out I'm out of playing and practicing for another 3 to 6 weeks. The worst thing about it is that I received my new clubs last week and still haven't hit them yet.

I'm reasonably fit and play tennis twice a week, but because of a sedentary job my back is always tight, after around 12 holes of golf it starts getting a bit sore, I guess I should stretch more but I never do so its my own stupidity.

Damn! sorry to hear that mate, cant you get down the practice green and practice some little bump and runs?

Im guessing advice was to rest up?

Only puting at the moment hopefully next week will start slowly with little pitches and chips around the green.
Still really annoyed I was waiting 4 weeks for new clubs and having hit them once.

Sounds similar to pains I get sometimes. When it happens I see a physio who has told me on many occasions it's due to a shift where one shoulder is visibly higher than the other, this is usually caused by spasms in the larger back muscles.

Not being funny but a bad swing/technique may hurt your back.

I went through a period a few years ago where I had a stiff lower back after a few rounds and I put this down to a flawed swing action. Body heave basically instead of swinging the club with my arms. Much easier on the body and haven't had any problems since.

I'm exactly the same and the spasms in the back muscles and shoulder alignment seems reasonable. I can certainly relate to that at the moment and can feel it.

Need a good sports massage to sort me out I think. Or a chartered physio.

I go and see a Bowen/Emmett therapist on the recommendation of our golf Pro. Wish I'd found out about it years ago.

Have done recently, really tight right on top of my heart, have always suffered with back problems since I was 18, traced it back to a muscle to the right of my left shoulder blade. Got the Mrs to drive over it with a back massager I bought when I had sciatic nerve problems a couple of years back and it eases it, really can be bloody painful, thought I was having a heart attack when I first got it, could hardly breathe.

Doc says its intercostal strain, can take 3-6 weeks to fully recover.

Looks like boots will be making a fortune from me in pain killers as I'm not giving up golf for that long!
