Hi All

Just a bit of research really; went to the Belfry for a club fitting mid Feb whilst in the UK visiting the folks. The fitting itself was brilliant - 2 hrs and god knows how many balls (I was knackered at the end) for a set of shiny Ping i20s 5-PW, 3 x Anser wedges 50/54/58 and a G20 3 wood, all with various shaft/lie options (I don't use a driver and am happy with my Yes! Carolyne so no need to spend even more money there lol!).

Paid prob more than I wanted to at the time as the sale was rather pushed, but on reflection happy enough to pay the Belfry price for the pro's assistance (Phil - he's really good) and given the irons are the new range there won't be much saving to be had anyway by shopping around.

Got a call this morning to say that the Belfry were having problems with their "Ping account" and my clubs would be delayed, without any indication of when I'd expect to see them (although he did assure me it would be before April 15th so I can take them to Druids Glen/K Club for this yr's golf trip.) I have a theory on why this might be but just wondered has anyone else had any probs recently buying fitted clubs from the Belfry?

Cheers All
Lee

I had the same problem last year with my i15 Hybrid and was told exactly the same thing. Had to chase a few times before it eventually arrived.

If I were you, I'd make myself a nuisance. Ring them every 2/3 days so that if there's a queue you won't be forgotten about. They'll have a reason to stop you chasing them.

I had a problem when I wanted the TM MC irons.
Taylormade couldn't make enough of them fast enough in anything other than standard loft & lie.
All of my clubs are from the Belfry Academy (CF'd) & I have lessons there though and I've had no problem with anything else.

Never had Ping so can't comment on them.

hmm, I would be a little upset, did they say they would compensate you? did they offer your money back?

I think he's writing to give me a free round or something, which is fine but not much use (I live in the Isle of Man and don't get over with my clubs that often). Would have preferred free delivery instead (I'm going to have to pay to have them couriered here).

Now I've thought about it a bit, I let him off the hook somewhat when he rang this morning but at least he was up front about it. Maybe I should shout a bit more considering I spent over £900, so when the letter turns up I'll get back in touch with him. Might drop Ping a message on their website too and see if they are having delivery probs due to volumes.

Ping are normally super quick. I bought my i15's after being c/f and they arrived in no time from Gainsborough.

When Ive ordered any Ping product, in the Past, even custom order, you're normally quoted 10days, but thats conservative, and often arrive within 7 days

Sounds more like, they havent paid their bill, on Stop......??......or arent ordering anymore in THIS tax year, so recieve after april........??.........or due to being put up for sale, uncertainties at this venue......??

Something Doesnt Add Up

ME ........ I would Have Cancelled, ordered elsewhere, Most Likely saved some money and recieved much quicker too, Your call though

This seems the likely outcome. I know a few on here have had Ping fitting either at Ping HQ or via registered fitter and there have been plenty of tales of superb service, even on old sets going back to be altered. I think the issue is likely to be at the Belfry's end rather than Ping

contact ping, explain the situation and ask them their take. also, get the measurements (right term?) and consider an alternative supplier. theres also a chance that they're (belfry) over their limit of orders in the month but i'd be surprised at this. the waiting list and ping's production time is the likely answer if you've got a very specific measurement.

The chap at Ping (obviously hasn't got his Friday hat on) said that they couldn't discuss "problems the Belfry account" (his words, which sets off alarm bells) and I'd need to take it up with them but he did highlight Ping weren't having any issues with any of their range (delivery or lead times).

I'll drop an update when I get a definitive answer from the Belfry.

If it swims like a fish and looks like a fish, it will no doubt smell...........

Good luck fella

I got fitted for a driver years ago at the Belfry.

Is it still a case of you have a charge for the fitting which is taken off the price of the clubs if you buy from them?

Been a bit slack and rang them this lunchtime. Problems with Ping account "sorted yesterday" and they are now shipping orders. Asked for them to be shipped to one of the Ping authorised retailers here on the island instead of the Belfry as they'll get here quicker and won't cost me onward courier charges. Not sure how long they'll take to arrive but I'm hoping the Shop Mgr will ring me back and give me a positive answer.

Can't keep swinging my current ill fitting clubs indefinitely...

Thats great news. Strange that there was problems with the Ping account, I wonder what went down?!

I have had a little look around and it seems that they went from a credit limit of £560,000 to Seek suitable guarantees over a 4 day period. It has happened like that 5 times since 2008, this would usually mean a CCJ but there is not one so it must be that in each case they are late filing there accounts.

To be honest I could not really split the hotel and golf side, let alone the golf course and shops moneys so this is all really pie in the sky. Interesting that they were £90 million in the hole in 2009 though, I guess thats the mortgage.

Ill shut up now as I have basically found nothing to support the theory that Ping did not get there bill paid on time.....
