We are playing a 4-ball at WS later this year in April / May time, and as it's a bit if a schlep there from dahn sarf, we'd like to build in another course and an overnight stop to the trip.

Anyone know of a nice pub / inn in the area, and perhaps a suggestion for a good second course also?

Cheers

The Inn ?

We are also looking to do a trip there around July time and will also be looking at accom - the Inn does look nice

If your not playing the Bracken then it's worth playing since your there, a different course altogether with very slopey greens but I've not played it in years so I'm probably not the best judge of it. Alternate to the Bracken, Lincoln Golf club (or known as Torksey) is a very good course, has good greens and hosts major county events on a regular basis. But that's about an hour drive north from Woodhall, or not far south of Woodhall and has excellent greens is Belton Park (not Belton woods the hotel complex) that has 27 holes again another course that has hosted top county events. Spalding is also good then there's Seacroft links course at Skegness, or Sherwood Forest is a quality course near Mansfield, Coxmoor and Hollinwell is also in same area.

The Dower if you can get in but the Inn is also very good. Nice Indian restaurant and a Mediterranean one as well on the main strip (Broadway)

The Inn is very good. You would really enjoy the Petwood too. It's the old officers mess for 617 squadron. The downstairs bar, with all the pics and memorabilia is worth a visit.

Yeah the Petwood is the one I'm looking to book

Are you looking at a weekday or weekend?

It will probably be 2 weekdays as I have an invite as part of having been Captain at ours last year.

Only stipulation is it must be used before mid- May though did wonder if it might exclude weekends when I call the club.
the invitation is for any day of the week.

you will struggle with weekends in April as we are nearly booked up and most hotels are full.

its worth doing the bracken as well and staying at Woodhall Spa, all the hotels are good.

Another vote for The Petwood. Had a full size snooker table and good beer when I was there, what more do you want? Plus if you ask nicely they will arrange for a fly past by the Lancaster bomber stationed nearby. ;)

I'd recommend Lincoln Golf Club and not just because its my club, if you stay out at Woodhall I would also recommend Seacroft and also Louth which is a hidden gem. I run a B&B but its a good 45 mins to Woodhall from me, have heard good things about Petwood so you should be OK there.

Stay in Newark should be an option! got the nightlife to entertain you whether it be curry and pubs or restaurant etc, and couple Newark GC as your 2nd round. Good travel links North-South and East-West.
