Accommodation in St Andrews

I assume that the Westport has new ownership from my days up in St Andrews. There was an old woman running the place that wouldn't serve pints to females, only halves. If a woman asked for a pint it was served in two half pint glasses because "it's not ladylike to drink from a pint glass". She was fabulous.

I think you are going back a few years. We have stayed there four times over the last few years, and not an old woman in sight.:)

I see you have got into the Strathtyrum, well done. You may really struggle to get somewhere in town, the university halls might be your best bet now. I did suggest quite some time ago that you booked up as you were very likely to get in.

Some good ideas so far, although the Russell is rather out of my price range.

There are vacancies at several guest houses in the centre of St Andrew D4S, but I have spent so much time looking at prices and reviews today that I thought I might get some better ideas from people on here who had actually stayed at these places.

We were there a couple of weeks ago - most b&b's charge around £100 for a double room

The Premier Inn looks ok on the edge of time, but we chose to stay in Pittenweem around a 20 min drive away

If you get a chance, try playing Lundin Ladies. Also there is a great grass driving range at Charleton Golf Course - £1 for 25 balls!

Louise, if you can get in any of the b&b's along the Scores and streets off there go for that.

None of them will be rubbish and all fully geared up for golfers. You can walk to the Links Trust clubhouse in 10 minutes (18th green at the old in 2 mins) park on the street and 5 minutes into town for eating etc.

I stayed in a guest house opposite St Micheal golf club which is just the other side of the old Air base. it was very cheap and clean.

I've only been to St Andrews a couple of times. On the last occasion there was just the 2 of us we stayed in Dundee (Premier Inn) as its only 20 min drive.

And when 5 of us went up one year we stayed in a 8 berth caravan at Craigtoun. A great laugh and it worked out to be about 30 quid a head for the weekend. Cheap as chips.

I couldn't recommend this guest house more highly www.morrisguesthouse.com
The husband is starter at the Castle Course & it's 2 miles from the Duke's course. I've stayed there a few times when playing Mid-Am events up there. The wife cooks a lovely Haggis, Neeps & Tatties with a drop of Highland Park
The other place I use is 4-5 miles outside St. Andrews on route to Kingsbarns www.stayinkingsbarns.com Ideal for Fairmont St. Andrews & Castle Course. The husband is a member of St. Andrews & organises games for you as required.
If you want a lively night try No. 1 Golf Place www.thegolfinn.co.uk Bit run down but full of local Caddies wanting a drink, chat, sing song or a fight. View of 18th Green from some of the bedrooms.
