Just wondered what you guys would expect to play on a course that you'd never played on before?

Played at Pedham (near Swanley) the other day, quite liked the course and definately want to play it again, but it has a fairfew doglegs that i found difficult to judge. I'm sure with abit more course knowledge i could get my score down quite nicely ! (not going out of bounds on the 2nd next time would be a start!), so i shot a 93 (my 15 handicap + 6).

Just wondering what you guys would be expecting to shoot on a place you'd neve seen before, or if you'd still expect to hit your handicap.

6 over handicap equates approximately to 30 Stableford points which is my primary target every time I play. It shows you've had an ok day
If your handicap is accurate you'll get nearer 30 points more often than 40 so playing a new course I wouldn't be unhappy scoring 30..

..

(quick check of scorecard), yep, 31 points, was quite please to be honest, now to not play the silly shots next time !! ;)

I shot my best ever gross on a new course, a record which still stands. Was also in very windy conditions and after a long drive!

I never have an excuse now for bad scores :(

statistically, as a 15 handicapper you are going to shoot +6 reasonably often.

also according to stats, playing other than your home course equates to around +1.5 shots (ie home advantage is considered to be around that level.

so putting it together, you shot +6 - 1.5 allowance - 3 buffer = + 1.5 shots (which statistically is right up there in your most likely score range!

but that's boring - why did you hit that ball OOB on the 2nd? (much more interesting :))

Ha ha, i thought i could cut the corner, obviously not !!

Think that goes back to the course knowledge i mentioned earlier (as you were also alluding too i believe).

Playing Sittingbourne tomorrow, if i could shoot under 90 (handicap +3 = 89) i'll be more than happy. I've played there a couple of times before so hopefully abit of knowledge will help?

Just played a course which are University is going to use next year as it is closer and cheaper.

I ended up shooting 1 over on the back 9 with 42 points...

Think it really depends on how your handicap travels.

I wouldn't be unhappy with 30 points around pedham if you hadn't played it before....

Lots of dog legs at varied lengths of lay up,
Very fast greerns ( normally )
And wind that this time of year can make tricky holes play even harder

Just been round Chart Hills for the first time, I gave myself 12 shots for stableford. Off the blue tees, one up from the backs, I shot 38 points and 10 over par gross.... Only visited 1 of the 138 bunkers!

I made my best ever "official" score of 101 (35 stableford points) at a course i was playing for the first time last weekend at Bar Hill Menzies. Sunshine and zero wind combined with barely any rough was a major contributing factor.
